Re: Easy to Deceive

"I told you... something to help you relax." Watching Letiyana as she slowly began to slip away, the prince almost looked... bored? No, There was something else there. It might have been sadness, but for the fact that he had only just met the woman. But as she began to slip into a sort of unconscious state, he placed his arms gently around her and lifted her. "Can't have you going on about monsters and horrors and all, nor can I have my good name tarnished."

Carefully Ryland carried the princess to her room, where he tucked her in gently. He then left her room, quietly shutting the door behind him and going to his own room. The prince hoped that the concoction he'd slipped Letty would work and she would have no memory of the events she'd witnessed. That hope followed him into his dreams and into the next morning.

Re: Easy to Deceive

Post by Danry on Sun Apr 09, 2017 9:36 pm

Out cold, lying in her new bed, Letiyana tossed and turned all night, her dreams plagued by monstrous demons, and unearthly howls. She woke in the morning drenched in a cold sweat, feeling like she hadn't slept at all. The sun had barely peeked over the horizon, and Letty was already awake, struggling to remember how she got into bed. She remembered going into the forbidden room, and barely making it back out, but everything after that was gone. The fear must have caused her to forget; the only logical thing was that she ran straight to her room.

A few hours passed and the princess' hand maiden knocked and entered. "Good morning, Princess."

Letty acknowledged the girl, and allowed her to help get ready for the day. Her hair was brushed and pulled back into a loose braid, some of the shorter strands framing her face. The dress she wore was silk, clinging to her like a second skin down to her waist, where it fanned out. It was colored emerald green with silver hems around the neck, and bottom.

"You look absolutely stunning, Princess." Her hand maiden smiled.

Letty returned the smile. "Thank you."

"Breakfast will be served soon. If you need me you know how to reach me?"

"Yes, thank you." Letiyana dismissed the girl and stood at the window, looking out at the sea. Her thoughts drifted to earlier that morning and she had a decision to make. Should she tell Ryland that she disobeyed him? Or should she lie?

Hearing Letty's handmaiden's voice as she walked by, Ryland opened his door and caught up to the servant girl. Catching her by the arm, the girl turned to face the prince, bowing respectfully though she had been startled by his sudden appearance. "Oh, master Ryland! My apologies. I did not expect to see you."

"It's alright. Tell me, how is Letiyana faring this morning? She had quite a rough night from what I understand."

The servant bowed again. "Princess Letiyana was very shaken up, Sir. The staff say she went into the forbidden room and came out white as a ghost, sobbing and twisting about."

"But today she seems to be more calm?"

"Yes, Sir."

"Good, see that she is well taken care of. Bring in flowers. Calming fragrances. I'm going to speak to her now."

Without waiting for a reply, Ryland turned and made a b-line for Letty's dormitory. Practically out of breath, as he had run the entire way, he took a moment to steady his breathing, then knocked on the door. "Princess Letiyana? It's Prince Ryland. May I enter?"

After receiving permission, Ryland pulled open the door and stepped in, genuine concern written on his face. That expression was replaced by one of relief when he saw that she was not physically harmed. Still, he kept his distance, still unsure what she remembered from the previous night's events. "The servants said you were ill. How are you?"

The decision was made. Now all she had to do was actually work up the courage to do it. Letty was debating on going to find Prince Ryland or not, when he came to her door.

"I am fine, M'Lord. The first night somewhere new is always hard." She turned to face him, no trace of the fear from the night before. There was no indication that she remembered anything, other than her peek beyond the door. "I'm glad that you came here, actually. I... I have something I need to tell you."

Letiyana took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. No doubt she was going to anger him greatly, so she was mentally preparing herself. There were only a few possible outcomes, and none of them seemed to be in her favor.

"Please don't condemn me for this. I am deeply sorry, and regret every second since, but I..." Letiyana frowned, her gaze distant, a shudder rolling down her spine in fear. "I disobeyed rule one. I.. Looked in the forbidden room." Refocusing on Prince Ryland, she continued. "I didn't see anything, but I heard-... It was... I am so terribly sorry."

Ryland crossed the room toward Letiyana, his steps slow and soft, never taking his eyes off her. His trick had worked, but now it was time to seal the deal and cement her trust in him. "I'm glad you're okay," was all he said in reply as he put his arms around her. Perhaps it was improper and highly irregular, but he wanted her to feel protected. In all honesty, he felt a small amount of remorse for what he'd done, drugging her and all. But it was necessary to make sure they were married.

"If you were curious you should have just asked me, I would have taken you there myself. Those things could have killed you, Letiyana. Then I would be alone again, and I don't want that." After a moment the prince released her, took a step back, and gazed down into her eyes. "With me... you are safe."

"I know this is quite forward of me, and I know that our marriage has already been arranged. But... I want you to know that I have already become fond of you, and I look forward to spending more time with you." Keeping Letty happy was priority number one.

Letty stood dumbfounded, her eyes wide, a rosy hue tinging her cheeks. He forgave her? He was everything he seemed to be. Perfect. How could she compare?

"Thank you.." She whispered breathlessly. "But with or without you I'm never going back there again, and I will take more care to obey the rules. They are obviously there for good reason."

She didn't know what it was, but there was something about the Prince that set him apart from everyone else she had ever met. Sure, she had suitors before who proclaimed their fondness for her, but none ever captured her attention like he did. When he looked at her, she felt a fluttering in her stomach she'd never felt before.

"If I may be as bold as you.. I am.. Quite fond of you as well."

"Good. I'm glad to hear that. I don't want you to feel trapped here, but those rules are in place because of past incidents that we are trying to prevent." Taking Letty's hand, Ryland began to escort her to her chair by the window. Despite his actions the night before, Ryland really did feel something for Letiyana. But like so many others, she needed to be taught that his word is absolute. He would treat her like a goddess as long as she followed the rules and did as she was told and didn't cause problems.

Sitting her down carefully, Ryland moved to the side of the chair and put the back of his hand softly to her forehead. "I feel no fever, but I am no doctor either. I can fetch the physician if you aren't feeling well." Of course he was pretty sure Letty was not actually ill, but that didn't mean that he couldn't check to make sure.

"Would you care to spend the day together? With me, I mean. No official business. No aires to put on. Just a leisurely day to recover from your travel and your nightmarish night."

With a soft laugh, Letty waved Ryland off. "I do not need the physician, I am not ill. I just had a long night is all. I am perfectly fine." She pushed herself back up on her feet, brushing a stray strand of hair from her face.

"I would, however, love to spend the day with you." A soft smile touched her lips. His gaze was piercing, and made her heart jump erratically in her chest. Letiyana barely knew this man, and yet he seemed to have captured a part of her no one else had come close to. In his presence she felt safe, and protected, her nightmares long forgotten.

"One thing, though. Call me Letty. Letiyana is so formal."

"Letty... as you wish." Ryland smiled warmly. Their relationship was becoming more secure every minute, which suited him very well. "You may call me Ry, if you like. Under official circumstances, we should use our formal names however." There was almost always a need for formality when one was of noble birth, but when they were alone, or free from the duties that accompanied their titles, nicknames were acceptable as well as pleasant.

"Do you ride? I have a favorite spot outside the city that I like to visit on nice days." Ryland's mind took him to the little oasis he'd found a few years ago. Lush and green, the natural pond in the center of a large dome was fed by the steady flow of a small waterfall from Shoren River. It was secluded and private, deemed a place for only members of the royal house to visit.

Ry? It's cute.

Letty tried to hide how happy she was becoming, but it was evident by the smile on her face that seemed to make her glow. "I do ride. I find it relaxing." She hooked her arm with his, looking up at him. "I would be honored to see your favorite spot."

Perhaps the arranged marriage wasn't going to be as bad as she thought. She was in a beautiful kingdom on the sea, the staff were kind and attentive, and her fiancé was out of a storybook. What more could she ask for? Sure, she would do anything to share it all with her family, but sacrifices had to be made for peace. Although, she didn't see anything truly damning for her sacrifice. She traded what she knew and loved for something equally beautiful.

Everything was perfect.

Ryland's smile could only be outdone by one other, and that person just happened to be smiling right back at him. A ride would do them both some good, give them a chance to clear their heads and just be, without any prying eyes or expectations. The fact alone that she had decided to share that time with him spoke volumes about their closeness. With her arm hooked in his. Ryland escorted Letty through the keep, nodding to and acknowledging the staff as they milled about their daily chores. Though he kept his eyes open for any disloyalty or disrespect, the prince seemed to be very content, happy even.

Down to the stables he traveled with Letiyana on his arm. There was a direct access to them from the keep so they did not have to travel through the city. At that time of morning the merchants would have already set up shop and the promenade would be full of people, something Ryland didn't appreciate too much, especially given the attempt on Letty's life just one day prior.

When finally they arrived on the other side of the passage, Ryland pushed open a door hidden behind the wall. He stepped inside, greeted the stable master, then strode excitedly to his horse, the same powerful beast that had driven him into the fight many times. "Please, feel free to pick whichever you like. All have been trained to follow their rider's bidding without hesitation."

The walk through the keep and passage was quiet and peaceful. Two things Letiyana had not experienced in quite a while since the war had begun. But now all was well, and she could relax and enjoy herself.

Upon reaching the stable, she began to feel excited. It had been a time since she had ridden due to the threat of soldiers, so being able to feel the wind rushing around her once again was intoxicating. She meandered through the stable, looking at the steeds there, but one caught her eye more than the others. It was a beautiful black horse with one white stripe down its nose. It's coat was sleek and shiny, well groomed, and it seemed to pick her as well, whinnying softly as she approached.

"I'd like this one." Letty said, softly stroking the animals face, smiling as it nudged her hand.

Re: Easy to Deceive

"Excellent choice. We call her Rezza; it means storm in our language, for not only her coloring but her speed. She's the fastest horse in Densmoore, and is, at this moment, without a rider." Memories of Rezza's previous rider came to mind, killed in battle by Letiyana's own army. Rezza was no war horse, for she was not large enough to charge through a line of soldiers. She was, however, extremely fast, which made her ideal for mounted archers and ranged skirmishers. Albrecht was a master bowman and had killed many foes from Rezza's back, but finally fell to an arrow in his chest. It was a warrior's death, and there was no greater honor.

Ryland himself mounted his own horse, a large muscular animal bred for strength and power. "This is Borj. You may remember him from your arrival yesterday." As if it understood it was being introduced, Borj nodded his head and stamped his hoof, causing Ryland to chuckle slightly. His horse was much slower than Rezza, but could pound through more than a single line of soldiers before losing momentum.

Carefully he saddled the horse, while directing a stable boy to assist Letty passively. The goal was to be there in case she needed help, but to allow the princess the satisfaction of independence, something she was undoubtedly missing about her homeland. Once properly prepared, Ryland flicked the reigns and took his horse out of the stable, meeting with a group of soldiers who would escort them to their desired destination.

"Remember Letty, your horse is much faster than mine, so don't ride at full speed unless there's danger, else I won't keep up."

"You are beautiful, Rezza. Would you have me as a rider?" The princess spoke to the horse who neighed in response as if answering her question. She loved horses.

Letty mounted Rezza with no difficulty. Unlike most Royal women, Letiyana did not ride side saddle, but her dress was stretchy enough to not ride up her legs and show off too much skin. It may not have been proper, but it was how she rode. No one in her homeland had said anything against it, but she wasn't in her homeland anymore.

"I wouldn't dream of leaving you behind." Letty smiled, patting Rezza softly. "I would much rather enjoy this ride with you next to me, than with you behind me."

Re: Easy to Deceive

Ryland was clearly surprised by the way Letiyana rode straddling the saddle. Though their own women were trained to fight and become warriors, he had never seen a member of royal stature ride in such a way. No female, of course. With a smile on his face he turned to face his future queen, giving her a nod of approval. "As would I. Now then, let's be off!" Ryland flicked the rains and kicked his heels, urging Borj to take off, though his size made acceleration slightly slugish. Despite the horse's girth, however, the stud was remarkably maneuverable. Still not nearly as light-footed as Rezza, but for a warhorse it was something of an abnormality.

The ride out to the oasis was an interesting ride for anyone who hadn't had the opportunity to ride through the southern country. Open plain gave way quickly to a light forest, with trails marking the more heavily traveled areas. Ryland tended to stay on the trails, but occasionally he would deviate to have some extra fun, much to the chagrin of the guard riding behind them.

Eventually those same guards slowed to a stop, then fanned out into a perimeter. Ryland continued on, bringing his horse to a slow walk as they descended into his private area. Below them was a large crater, full of trees and other vegetation. A large clear pond lay in the middle, fed by a 50 foot waterfall to the north. Cave entrances dotted the walls; it was, in Ryland's opinion, the most beautiful place in all of Densmoore.

"Here we are. What do you think?"

Letty enjoyed the ride, taking in the scenery around them, and the path they took there in case she wanted to go again. The air blowing past undid her braid, causing her hair to ripple out behind her in slight waves. She laughed as they rode, staying close to Ryland, following him through the paths.

When they finally arrived, Rezza slowed, and allowed Letty to take in the view. The princess widened her eyes, breathless. The scene that fell across her eyes was gorgeous. The waterfall and the pond, caves that could be explored. It was breathtakingly stunning.

"Oh my.. This is.. Amazing." Letty breathed, turning her awestruck gaze to him. He truly knew beauty when he saw it. She was grateful that he decided to share such a wonderful place with her.

Ryland dismounted and took the reigns in his hand, negotiating a narrow path that lead down the hill and into the crater. "I tried once to ride Borj down this path, but it became far too dangerous about halfway through. The path narrows so much that I had to blindfold him and lead him by hand. He should be fine, but we'll want to cover Rezza's eyes before we get to the bottom." True to his word, the dirt path became so narrow that Borj's side touched the wall of dirt and rock to their left. He stopped and waited for Rezza's eyes to be covered, then continued on.

"You are a great rider, Letty. Though you have never met, you seemed to know Rezza's body better than she does. Perhaps you were horse in a previous life." Ryland chuckled at the joke, unable to contain himself. For all he knew, she was gifted with the powers of a druid, and could commune with the animal on a level he could not. Regardless of the reason, Ryland was glad that she was there with him.

At the bottom of the path, Ryland let go of the reigns, securing them to the saddle, then patted his horse's back. "Go play Borj." The warhorse was more than happy to do as he was commanded, leaving the group to run the field circling the pond.

"I've been here many times, but i've never seen such a lovelier flower in this oasis as the one before me." His eyes were locked upon Letty, leaving it clear that the flower he referred to was, in fact, her.

"I used to raise horses with my mother." Letty laughed. "Sometimes it's easier to tell what they're thinking than other people." Letiyana was second born daughter to her parents. While she had no brothers or any younger siblings, being second was hard and she found it easier to spend time horseback riding or fighting, than it was to be around royals. Upon reaching the bottom, Letty also released her horse. "Go on, then. Play if you like."

She watched Rezza run off, galloping around, and then turned to face her Prince. Cheeks rosy red, she averted her gaze and brushed hair from her face. "You flatter me, Ry." She murmured shyly.

For reasons unknown, Letiyana felt meek and shy. There were no watching eyes on them, no nosy faces, or eavesdropping ears. No spies. Just peace, and the two of them. Her stomach flipped over itself at the thought of them just being there alone together. She couldn't have developed deep feeling for him yet, could she? They only just met. But, he had saved her life from brigands upon her arrival the day before. He was concerned for her well-being even after she disobeyed him.

Ryland had effectively swept Letiyana off her feet.

"I speak only truth," Ryland said as he took Letty's hand in his and brought it to his lips, pressing a tender kiss to them. Letty had quickly found a place inside his heart and was firmly embedded there. But how could he convince her to stay? She would inevitably grow weary of his company and seek the attention of another. While he loved women, especially Letiyana, he was always afraid that they would become bored with him and leave. He had to come up with something, and quickly.

Just then an idea popped into his head, possibly the only thing that could possibly prevent her from leaving. With her hand still in his, he looked into the young woman's eyes and, brushing a lock of her hair behind her ear, spoke softly to her. "Letty, I know the marriage was arranged for some time from now but... I do not wish to wait. Before you came I was almost afraid of what you might think of me. Now that you're here, I find myself missing you whenever we are apart. So... let us marry tomorrow."

The idea was completely ludicrous, but the look in Ryland's eye told Letty he was completely serious. The fact that they were already engaged and enjoying each other's company so much, it seemed like the logical thing to do. But Ry wasn't thinking logically. He was following what made him happy, as he did in all things.

Married. Tomorrow. The words echoed in her head, her heart pounding furiously. They weren't supposed to be married for at least a fortnight, maybe more, but he wanted to push it up to tomorrow? Letiyana stared up at Ryland, disbelief written across her pale face.

"T-Tomorrow?" She repeated, shakily. It wasn't that she was opposed to the idea, but she wasn't even sure she was ready to marry him six months from then, let alone tomorrow. "I-... It's a bit... Soon..." She whispered. But could she oppose him? They were to be married anyway, what was the difference as to when it took place?

"If that... If that is what you wish, then we shall wed tomorrow."

"Yes? Yes?! Yes!" Ryland was overjoyed, a joy he displayed by lifting Letty off the ground and spinning her around, a task easily achieved for someone as physical toned as he. He laughed happily as he embraced his bride-to-be, even going to so far as to plant a kiss on her cheek, something considered quite forward in most cultures, even in his own. But he could not help himself.

"Letty you've made me the happiest man alive!" It was good that they were in such a secluded area, for his voice carried on across the whole area. Setting her down on her feet, Ryland stared out at the water, seeing the light ripples in the water from the fish that bobbed at the surface in search of food.

"Ryland!" Letty exclaimed in surprise, as she was lifted off the ground. Even more surprised when he kissed her cheek. Heat rose to her cheeks as she blushed deeply, smiling wide. His happiness was contagious and she couldn't resist.

Swaying slightly as her feet hit the ground, Letty brushed some hair from her face. Watching Ryland, her sooner-than-expected-to-be husband, the realization hit her. She was going to be married the very next day. While her fondness for the man in front of her had grown, a place for him deep inside her heart, she wasn't perfectly certain she was ready to be married. Wedding preparations weren't all that needed to be prepared; Letty needed to prepare herself.

"So.. What now? We have to let everyone know, so preparations can be made. But," Letiyana bit her lip, "it's so beautiful here."

"I'm not ready to go back yet either," Ryland replied, having picked up on Letty's vibe. "There's no reason we can't stay for a while." Turning his face toward the pond, an idea began to creep into his head. There was no breeze that day and the sun was high in the sky, warming the land and its occupants. Memories of his childhood returned, reminding him of the hot summer days when he and his cousins would travel with their parents. There was a large lake where they would swim. Those were simpler times.

"We could go for a swim. The water should be plenty warm now." Ryland moved to the edge of the pond and stuck his hand inside. His eyes slowly closed as he savored the sensation of the warm water on his skin. It was decided. He wanted to go swimming. But whether or not he did depended on Letiyana's reply.

Swimming? He couldn't be serious. They didn't have anything to swim in other than their clothes. But as she watched him move to the pond, and feel the water, the look that came over his face told her he was serious. The water couldn't feel that good. Following in his steps, she knelt down and put her own hand in the water.

The warm water washed over her fingers, and she hummed softly in content. Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to dip in the water for a moment or two. "Swimming sounds fun."

Re: Easy to Deceive

Smiling again, Ryland took a look at the ridge that surrounded them, making sure that no one was around before he began to undress. "The water's perfect. I don't want to waste an opportunity, but my tailor would be severely sore if I ruined the clothes he made me." Layer by layer, Ryland continued to shed bits of clothing until he wore nothing but an undergarment. Almost nude, the prince was still an impeccable specimen, with toned, defined musculature and dark tan that seemed to have no lines anywhere on his body.

"This is a private area, so I usually swim naked. I hope you don't mind." Of course he had many thoughts dancing around in his head as he stripped, becoming excited to be naked in front of her, and to potentially see her naked. Again, it was extremely unorthodox for a man and a woman to be naked with each other without being married, but Ryland didn't care. They would be wed the next day anyway.
