The Prime Dimension Empty The Prime Dimension

Post by Machine Man Mon Jun 12, 2017 6:23 pm

Through the dirt and grime of a dirty window the first rays of morning began to pour, shedding some dirty light inside the library. The glass was filthy on the outside, but inside it was perfectly clean, bearing not a single smudge, or even a fingerprint. The library's tenant, and man in his late twenties, made sure that every inch of his space was kept immaculate, all the wood polished and shelves dusted. The books were enchanted to protect the pages from the ravages of time and keep them from drowning in the endless sea of oxygen surrounding them. A clever system of mirrors had been created to bring that natural light in and spread it across the room, for it only had a few windows.

Michael had always preferred natural light. Something about sitting underneath electric light-givers while being surrounded by some of the oldest texts in the world just did not feel right to him. He was old-fashioned in that way, preferring to read by sunlight or by candle rather than a flashlight or a bulb. Some thought it a curious trait, but most understood that it likely came from his background. Having grown up in a small rural community in Ireland, Michael had a deep appreciation for the simple things in life. He didn't need technology to get through his days, only peace, quiet, and good literature.

The library's keeper was not an intimidating man, though he also may have appeared somewhat out of place next to a group of his peers. There really was nothing remarkable about him aside from his physique, which was not the stereotypical look for a bookworm. Still, he hit all the other marks dead center, so it wasn't impossible to believe that the muscular Michael belonged among the stacks, away from the public.

The sound of shuffling feet as they entered the library made him pause, though only for a moment. He recognized the steps, knowing immediately who they belonged to. He might have spoken first, but before he could, her voice intercepted his, sweeping through the room like a gentle breeze.

"Michael," said the kind voice, as regal as it was feminine. "How are you today?"

Michael sat up from his spot at the desk, quietly approaching the woman, his eyes focused on the hem of her skirt as it grazed the floor. "Good morning, Master Aier." Michael dipped his head out of respect. In truth she was no master. Her grasp of magic was actually not nearly as keen as Michael's. She was, however, a spiritual leader to many, and had helped to ease his severely damaged and troubled mind when night terrors haunted him in the dark. She had lead him to a place of light, even if it was dimmed by the crushing fear that one day his past would return.

"I've come to ask if I might borrow a book. The Chronicles of Tyrannis, to be precise." Immediately Michael turned, leading Aier to the book she was requesting.

"A difficult read," he said quietly. "But I thought it was really interesting."

"Oh? You've read it?" Aier actually sounded surprised. "What did you find interesting about it?" The conversation continued with small talk while they retrieved the text then brought it back to the desk. Borrowing a book was not as simple as writing one's name on the card found in the back and turning it in, as it had been in grade school. Most books came and went whenever someone saw fit, and Michael trusted them to bring them back once they were finished. The more complex tomes, however, like the one Master Aier was borrowing, required verification, for those books held dark and powerful secrets.

Pressing her finger to a thorn on a rose stem, she allowed a single droplet of blood leave her fingertip, which she then pressed to a piece of paper on Michael's desk. She hissed briefly, but only for a moment. "We must find you a more efficient and less painful method, my friend." Master Aier smiled faintly, though she knew the young man did not share her humor.

After a quick goodbye, Master Aier left the room, allowing Michael to get back to his daily work. The life of a librarian was a quiet and predictable one, perfect for someone like him.

The Prime Dimension Empty Re: The Prime Dimension

It was a well known fact that Roan, the quiet gardener and grounds keeper, had a side job in an underground punk rock band. So, some days when she didn't roll out of bed until noon were expected, and looked over. Some of her gigs were hours away, and anyone who went to shows knew that they ran late into the night.

Today was one such day.

The sun poking in between the black out curtains and the wall was what roused the sleeping young woman. With a groan, she rolled onto her side overestimating the amount of bed she had on that side, and ended up toppling to the floor. Eyes barely open, she stared at the ceiling with an unamused stare as if it was at fault for her situation. The girl struggled for a few moments to free herself from the tangled sheets on her legs, but once she had, she pushed herself up to her knees, brushing hair from her face.

She sat there for a few moments before she forced herself up off the floor. Into the shower she went to clean herself up and get ready for the day. It was relatively warm out, so she chose a pastel pink thigh length dress and white leggings. The only thing on her list was to trim the roses and water the rest of the grounds, making sure the sprinkler systems were up and running, so she had time to stop by the library.

Exiting her small cottage on the edge of the grounds, Roan held several books in her arms and headed inside the large building towards the library. The Keeper of the Books, as she called him was there somewhere, but he always avoided her, and while it didn't bother her, she was curious.

Humming a new tune softly to herself, she meandered theough, putting her borrowed books back, and pulling out new ones to replace them with. It was a mystery how she found time to read as much as she apparently did given her two job choices, but she found time. Reading was something she found peace in, though her outward appearance did not indicate that she'd have an interest in the dry pages of literature.

With her books returned, and a few new ones in her hands, she decided to seek out the Keeper to inform him of her newest treasures. Plus it was a little fun to approach him and watch him avoid her.

The Prime Dimension Empty Re: The Prime Dimension

With the shelves already dusted, Michael went back to his desk with a thick, leather-bound book, the edges of its every page lined in pure gold. A ruby was set inside the front cover, about as large as the palm of Michael's hand but also very thin so as not to disturb the pages underneath. He set it gingerly on his desk then opened it up, slowly admiring each page as he went.

The librarian possessed a natural affinity for reading comprehension. He read at a speed just barely above average, but his comprehension stats were too high to measure. It was not a photographic memory, but the way he broke down and assimilated information, like his senses were constantly categorizing everything that he could observe. It made him a good librarian, and a good magician.

Again he heard a pair of feet enter the library, and again he recognized them, only this time he didn't feel the peace he felt when Master Aier was in the room. Instead there was a sense of anxiety and nervousness. Trying to act as if he did not notice her enter, Michael buried his nose in his book and tried to seem benign. But it wasn't exactly working very well. It seemed that she had locked him in since one of her first visits to the library.

'Why does she like tormenting me...?'

As expected he was exactly where she knew he'd be, and while she liked to tease him, she did not approach him too closely. She might have liked to pick on him, but not go over the top with it.

"I've returned my books from last week. I've just come to tell you I'm borrowing these next." Roan spoke to him indicating the few texts she held in her hands. She knew that she didn't have to tell him, he'd already know, but bothering him was just as fun. Loitering around, she spied the book he was reading, but didn't comment on it. "See ya later, Keeper." With a shrug and a wave, not expecting a reply, Roan turned and headed back out of the cool library into the sun.

The trek back to her cottage was peaceful and quiet, but she didn't have a lot of time to linger, she had a job to do. Setting her books on her kitchen table, she grabbed her work gloves, hat, and music, and headed out to tend to the roses. Being the groundskeeper, Roan was able to avoid people, and immerse herself in her own world of music, and magic. It allowed her to clear her mind and focus, or if she felt like it, not focus and allow the world to pass her by.

The only sounds he made to acknowledge Roan's presence were brief grunts and hums. He knew it was rude even as he was doing it, but that didn't mean he couldn't act that way. Michael had a good reason for behaving the way he did. How long would it be before she decided to take her teasing to the next level? How long before she mocked him and laughed at him just like the others did? No, he wouldn't let that happen. If he avoided her, she would have no reason to target him. The woman would leave him alone eventually, if for no reason other than sheer boredom.

Of course she didn't need to tell him what she was borrowing, or what she was returning. Michael knew from memory what books were missing, and there wasn't exactly a lot of traffic moving through there. He waited a few minutes after she left to make sure she was gone, then picked up the books and moved to replace them in their appropriate places. A simple levitation spell was easy enough to use to get the ones that belonged on the top shelves.

Michael then went back to his duties, deciding to clean and dust the artifacts before he did much else. He needed something to take his mind off his past, and sometimes a bit of mindless and menial work was just the thing he needed to do that. He moved about the library, dusting shelves and wiping down glass, then started on the windows again. All was starting to normalize, until he caught sight of the same woman out in the gardens, tending her roses as she usually did.

The sight of Roan brought a huge wave of anxiety back to his heart, pouring through him like tidal wave of poison. He didn't want to remember his past. Why couldn't he just forget? She didn't have anything to do with it. But she might do it too, and then he would have to go through everything all over again. Why couldn't he be god and avoid everything? Why did he bring about his own pain everywhere he went.

Ensnared by a panic attack, Michael collapsed and shook on the floor as vivid memories of his torture replayed right before his eyes.

Out in the gardens, Roan hummed softly to herself, as she pulled weeds, and simply kept the roses looking beautiful, cutting away dead branches, and filing down thorny branches. She was unaware of the eyes on her for a time, but an unsettling feeling crept down her spine. Chancing a glance up, her eyes landed on the windows to the library, a figure staring down at her. Roan frowned, her brow furrowing. Why was he staring at her? She watched as the color left his face, an expression falling over him that she hadn't seen in a long time.  Then he collapsed, disappearing from sight.

Without thinking, the gardener jumped to her feet, dropping her tools, and darting back inside. Not caring how rudely he acted towards her, or his aversion to her, she burst into the room, making her way straight to where she had seen him fall.

Dropping to her knees beside him, she pulled him against her, summoning a small breath of her magic to surround him. Her magic was nature based and could help, or harm, depending on her mood. This time it was to heal, but without knowing what was wrong with him, she couldn't direct the magic to any one area.

"It's alright. Deep, slow breaths.." Roan cooed to him softly, humming the first song that came to mind. A pang of guilt stabbed her through the chest; what if her teasing him earlier had caused this? She hadn't meant to hurt him. Chewing on her lip, she stared down at him concerned. What was she going to do? How could she help him? Then it came to her. The only person she had ever seen him talking to.

"Aier!" Roan called desperately, using her magic to make her voice travel further than it normal would have. "Help me!"

The Prime Dimension Empty Re: The Prime Dimension

Post by Machine Man Wed Jun 14, 2017 2:56 pm

The sound of dripping water was all Michael could hear, but immediately he knew where he was. He opened his eyes to the world around him, a room barely larger than a jail cell. To him everything appeared to be the same color, some form or another of blue. His hands, as always, were tied together behind his back. At one point he was also tied around the ankles, but weeks of starvation, atrophy, and brutal torture had taken much of the strength from his legs.

A wave of nausea flooded through his stomach suddenly as he heard the latch to the door slide back, letting the door swing freely on its crooked hinges. In stepped two men, wearing heavy boots and casual clothing. As fucked up as it was, their appearance was somewhat comforting. Whatever they were going to do would not be too terribly deplorable, for they didn't wear anything to protect them from blood, spit, or other bodily fluids.

For what felt like an eternity, worked their malicious methods on him. They never asked him for anything. He had no secrets to tell. It seemed just be for their own personal amusement. They beat him with sticks and belts. They applied electrodes from a Tens unit and cranked up the voltage, sending painful electricity surging through his muscles, causing them to tense up suddenly, until Michael thought they would tear. Each pad left burns on his skin when they neglected to coat them in gel.

Cigarettes were extinguished all over his bare body. They wrapped a leather belt around his neck and choked him until he was ready to black out, only to let go long enough for him to breath a few desperate gasps before starting again.

In the real world, Michael's body jolted and twitched against Roan's, every movement linked to the moment he was reliving from him days in captivity. He did not speak, and his breath came in shallow bursts. He whimpered quite a bit, incoherently begging for the mercy of death but never finding it.

By the time Aier appeared, a over five minutes had ticked by. "Roan," she said calmly as she entered the library, moving gracefully to the girl's side. She placed a hand on Roan's shoulder as she knelt down, moving her other hand to Michael's forehead. On his skin she began to trace a mark, glowing a ghastly blue as she whispered words of power.

After several tense moments had passed, Michael's body began to calm. His muscles relaxed one-by-one, until he laid limp and unconscious in Roan's lap, his breathing slow and deep. Aier's mark faded from his head, and the woman turned to Roan and smiled faintly.

"You were kind to stay with him. I thought we had finally gotten past these episodes, but I was wrong. He still needs someone to pull him back to the present."

"I tried to help him... I... I didn't know how to.." Roan didn't take her eyes off of Michael as she spoke. She watched his body twitch and writhe until it finally settled. "Does this happen often? What causes them?" Unwilling to let go of the Keeper while he was unconscious, Roan maintained her grip on him.

She prayed that she hadn't been the cause of his attack. Knowing, and having seen, the effects it could have on people to have episodes like this, the guilt would tear at her. Even if she had just been doing it harmlessly Roan wasn't going to tease him again. She would just come and go silently, no longer bothering him.

With her magic still surrounding Michael, she brushed some hair out of his face, wiping bit of sweat off his forehead. "I'm sorry, Keeper." She whispered.

Aier sighed as her magic began to dissipate, until all that remained was a memory. Sliding back to the wall, she sat on her rear and rested her head against the cold concrete. "It hasn't happened in a while. Michael's a troubled individual, he's been through more than anyone should put on a single person. Anything can trigger a relapse. I thought...." Aier sighed again. "I thought we had finally put those memories to rest, but it seems they're more stubborn that I thought."

Reaching out to the girl, Master Aier placed her hand gently on Roan's shoulder and smile genuinely. "It's not your fault, Roan. Trust me on that." The act was a simple one, trying to console a worried initiate, but in Aier's head, it told an entire story. It wasn't her place to tell her what had happened; if Michael wanted her to know, he would tell her.

"I can take him if you want. He needs to rest. I can take him to bed." It wasn't exactly a long journey, at all. Michael lived inside the library, in a small apartment above it. Aier would have insisted, for she treated Michael as if she were his mother, but the way Roan fretted over him, it made her wonder.

"If it's alright, I'd like to take him. I don't know how you do things here, but where I'm from, waking up to a nice hot cup of tea is relaxing." Roan knew the woman was just trying to reassure her, and help her, but she couldn't help but feel responsible. Minutes before his attack she had teased him a bit, by going near him when she knew he didn't like it. And he had been watching her when he collapsed. She couldn't help but feel like it was her fault.

"I don't want to overstep... maybe I shouldn't. He's bothered by me, I think. I might just upset him again." Even if Aier told her it wasn't her fault, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was responsible in some way. With a sigh, she shifted and gently laid Michael down before standing up. "I've got to tend to the roses, anyway. The thorns won't file themselves." Offering the woman a small, weak smile, Roan stepped back and headed for the door.

Her heart was heavy as she headed back down the the garden, picking up her tools to begin again. Unlike earlier that day, or any other day, Roan couldn't get into her normal relaxed state as she worked. Her mind kept drifting to the Keeper, wondering if he was alright, if he had woken and had calmed down. She wondered if Aier had stayed and told him she had been there.

'It would be better, I think, if he didn't know.'

Aier only smiled as Roan hurried away, saying not a word. Her magic allowed her to see the truth in things, what was real and what was not. That trait, she would often say, was the gift that the heavens bestowed upon her that gave her the ability to heal and to guide. If she felt guilty about what had happened, and the reassurance Aier had already offered the girl had not put that fear to rest, nothing else she could have said would have made a difference. Or so she thought.

Lifting the young man effortlessly, despite his size, the older sage carried him to his modest dwelling and set him down on the couch. As she had done before, Aier placed her hand on Michael's forehead and closed her eyes, shedding the confines of her physical body and entering Michael's mind.

A full hour had passed before Aier returned to her own body, just before Michael snapped out of his slumbering stupor, though he did not open his eyes right away. "It happened again," he muttered, knowing full well who was in the room with him, as Aier had a very specific magical presence and a very distinct natural fragrance.

"Yes."

"How long?"ks

"Just over an hour." Aier stood, as she spoke softly to her friend. "What do you remember?"

Michael's eyes slowly started to open then, blinking rapidly to clear the haze of unconsciousness from his eyes. "She came in and exchanged some books. But then I saw her in the garden... through the window. It all came back. What if her teasing turns into something more? What if she did wh..."

Aier cut the Keeper off immediately. "She won't. That life is behind you Michael. You must remember that your past is not your future."

"I know," Michael replied. It was always easier to talk just after an episode, for the residuals of Aier's magic lingered in his mind, helping him suppress the chances of falling into another fit. "She's different. But it doesn't change what happened. It doesn't change the future. She'll be gone eventually. You'll see."

The Prime Dimension Empty Re: The Prime Dimension

Post by Danry Sat Jun 17, 2017 7:32 pm

Roan kept herself busy for the remainder of the day, making sure the sprinkler systems were routed properly, and working on a timed schedule, especially on the hotter days.  She finished with the roses and that by the time the sun began to set. Since it was a weekend she had another gig she had to get to, so she hurried off to her small home to shower and change.

Her mind kept drifting to the Keeper, wondering if he was alright, if Aier had stayed with him. Sighing, the girl shook her head and frowned; if she let herself get distracted then she wouldn't be able to perform well, and she loved that crew. They may not have been able to do it easily, but they could replace her, and she didn't want that. It was a break from her magical life at the school, a needed break.

After her shower,  Roan dressed in her normal gig attire: fishnets, boots, ripped tight black tank top, puffy tutu, and of course some heavy dark makeup. It was a static change from her pastel work clothes, but she didn't want people recognizing her outside the walls of the institute.  As she made her way to her car, she stopped and turned, looking back at the windows of the library. "I'd apologize, Keeper, but I don't want to bother you anymore." Roan whispered on the wind, turning her back and leaving the grounds.

The gig lasted several hours, going well into the night, and Roan did not manage to get back to her home until around five am. Her limbs were heavy, her eyes barely open as she stumbled onto her porch. "Welcome home." She murmured to herself with a soft sigh.

The Prime Dimension Empty Re: The Prime Dimension

Post by Machine Man Sun Jun 18, 2017 2:20 am

Michael's day passed very slowly from there. Unable to sleep, partially because of a restless body but mostly because he could not shut his brain off, he decided to return to the library and organize the shelves. It was a meaningless task, serving only to annoy those who frequented the library, but he wasn't really thinking about that, nor was he thinking about how he was organizing things.

Michael's thoughts rested on Roan, that girl who seemed perfectly content to follow him around and push his buttons whenever she had the chance. Maybe she did it on purpose. Maybe not. But the more he thought about it, and her, the more he wanted to find out. She couldn't have known how he would have reacted to it, or why he had his... moment.... but he had to know why she kept teasing him.

An hour after sunset, Michael left the library and moved quickly to Roan's domicile. He did not wait, or even stop to knock. Because their sense of community was strong, people did not typically lock their doors. Knowing this, Michael walked right in, calling Roan's name as he searched the apartment for her.

When he did not find her, Michael did not go snooping through her belongings, but sat on her couch and waited for her to come home. When she did and welcomed herself home, just before she could flip on the lights, Michael spoke aloud.

"Welcome home, Roan."

Previously half asleep as she stumbled into her home, Roan was quickly jolted into full awareness as a voice spoke out from the darkness inside her house seconds before she flipped the lights on. Startled, she let out a loud yelp, stumbling backwards, tripping on her own feet and falling flat on her ass. Now that the lights were on, her eyes scanned the room and settled on the Keeper who was sitting casually on her couch.

"Bloody fucking hell..." Roan gasped, letting herself fall back onto the floor. "You gave me a right scare, Keeper.." Breathing deeply to calm her heart, she laid there for a few moments, before finally pushing herself back up into a sitting position.

"You been sitting there a bit, yeah? Want a cuppa?" Roan stood up and headed into the kitchen area, pulling out two cups, and two different types of tea. "I've only got Chamomile and Earl Grey." It didn't take her long to put the kettle on, and while she waited for the water to heat up, she sat on the chair by the door and pulled her boots off.

"I hope you have a reason for sitting here in the dark other than scaring the life out of me."

"Earl Grey would be great," Michael replied, though he didn't move much. He had been sitting on his hands most of the night and morning, afraid to lean on them for fear he'd fall asleep. He had to talk to the gardener. When she reappeared, he stood, wandering aimlessly around the room, admiring all the memorabilia she had sitting and hanging around.

"I want to know why you tease me so much. Coming to the library just to push my buttons. Aier says people do that when they like someone. Or when they're bothered by something. Why do you do that?" Curious to have his answers, Michael moved toward the girl, inspecting her with his eyes. His social habits were quite undeveloped and, in all honesty, quite odd for most. But Aier didn't seem to mind.

Roan considered his questions, then raised an eyebrow in silence as she went to go prepare the tea. She returned with a tray, on which were two cups, milk and sugar, not knowing what he liked she wasn't going to make his cup for him. Sitting down with her own cup she took a drink and crossed her right leg over her left.

"I don't know if you've noticed, but I do read, and libraries are full of books. I don't go there for the sole purpose of pushing your buttons, Keeper." Another sip of tea followed her statement, and she set her cup down, turning to look at him. "I won't be doing it again, so rest easy. I will come and go, in silence. I won't bother you anymore." She cast her glance away, and sighed, pushing herself to her feet, walking towards her room in the back. "Excuse me for a moment."

Retreating into her room, she changed her clothes and removed the dark makeup from her eyes. Reemerging with a light pink tank top and grey lounge pants, she moved back to her chair and cup of tea. "For the record, I never did it with intent to harm. But when I saw you collapse I realized it probably was hurting you in a way I don't understand. You seemed lonely, is all." Shrugging, Roan sipped at her tea, looking out the front window as the sun began to peek over the horizon.

"Why were you watching me, anyway? Ain't you bothered?"

Michael took his teacup and carried it back to the couch, where he sat with it cupped in both his hands. He did not sweeten it, or even add milk. Inhaling deeply, Michael savored the aroma and sighed softly. "I know. Morgana's Curses and Hexes, The Complete Guide of Magical Herbalism, Morkaden's Voyage..." The list continued on and on, stopping only after he'd recited, in order, every title she'd checked out in the last six months.

He took a careful sip, sucking through pursed lips so he didn't take in enough to burn his mouth. "You're interesting. I haven't figured you out yet like I have with the others. Everyone else is easy, but you're... not." Michael's eyes focused on the girl, his pupils shining brightly against the dark backdrop where the whites used to be.

"I am going to take that as a compliment," Roan said after a short pause. "I would say, however, that it might be a tad creepy knowing all that if you weren't a librarian. But I suppose it is your job to know what books leave and with whom." The girl didn't seem bothered at all, only mildly amused. His mannerisms, way of speech, and overall appearance was interesting to her, and she was definitely curious about him, but didn't voice any of her curiosities.

"I could say the same about you, though. You're not like anyone I've met. Maybe that's why I tease you. This, actually, is the first time you've spoken to me. Honestly I wasn't expecting it." Again, she got up, but she moved into the kitchen for more tea. "Or for you to be in my home at five in the morning. How long have you been here? You must be absolutely knackered." Returning to the living room, she cocked an eyebrow, her head slightly tilted to the left.

The Prime Dimension Empty Re: The Prime Dimension

"We have to distrust each other. It's our only defense against betrayal." Michael's tone was rather flat, but not hard as a rock. In his experience it was easier to believe that everyone would eventually hurt him than it was to let someone in and take the chance. Living alone wasn't the most exciting life, but at least it kept him relatively safe, not to mention the fact that his solitude allowed him to focus on his studies and magical practices.

Michael took another sip from his cup then cleared his throat, leaning back in his seat to get a little more comfortable. The fragrant tea permeated the air, creating a pleasant atmosphere in which they could speak honestly with each other. "I'm only talking to you now because of what happened before. I was going to tell you to leave me alone, but I changed my mind. I came to your door at eleven thirty but you weren't home."

That might have been even more creepy, knowing how long he'd been inside her home. But Michael didn't see it that way. To him it was no different from waiting at the airport or at a bus stop, or at a table when you're waiting for the server to bring your food. It was just a fact of the situation. He needed something, so he waited.

"Aye, i'm pretty tired. But I have to go back to the library at seven, so I will probably just stay awake. You should sleep though... i'll leave now."

"Eleven thirty? You've been here for six hours and you're going to stay awake?" Roan shook her head and took the tea tray back into the kitchen. She stifled a yawn as she came back into the room, "You've got more willpower than I do. I would've just left a note. But more power to ya." She leaned back in her chair, a grin on her face. "Safe travels in the dark, friend. I'll make sure the roses don't bite." She winked, and headed towards her room. "Turn out the light when you leave, yeah? Feel free to stay and finish your tea, it's not good manners to waste."

Disappearing into her room she collapsed on her bed, curling into her pillows and blankets. He was definitely interesting. His mannerisms were different, the way he moved about and spoke were odd, yet fascinating. Maybe she would bother him just a bit more. Roan had told him she wouldn't, and he had come there with intent to tell her to leave him be, which she would have done, but then he said he'd changed his mind.

With a wide grin, she settled in her bed, not knowing or caring when he left. She would see him later after all.

The Prime Dimension Empty Re: The Prime Dimension

A little shocked that she would just go to bed and trust that he wouldn't rob her, Michael sat down and went back to his tea, turning off the light before he sat down in case the light under her door bothered her. Of course she could very well have wards and hexes on her belongings just in case, but still, it was interesting that she would trust him even though she knew so very little about him.

Michael's time in the dark gave him plenty of time to think about what had happened, though somehow it didn't seem as scary as it was before. She seemed so genuine, like she was almost as guarded as he was, but also hid her emotions under pastels and flowers and dirt. Perhaps in time he would learn to trust her, and her him.

But in the meantime, it was time to start his shift at the library. Michael finished his tea, took his cup to the kitchen and very quietly washed it by hand. He guessed a few times until he found the right cabinet and replaced the dish. The walk back to the library was quiet, but with a hint of hope laced in with the cool morning due.

Michael couldn't help but hope that he would see Roan later.

The Prime Dimension Empty Re: The Prime Dimension

Roan fell asleep quickly, and slept for the whole morning and into the afternoon. Waking around one thirty pm, she stretched and yawned, remembering what had happened the day prior, and then that morning. How odd that was. The Keeper had paid her a visit.

"Hm.." The girl threw her legs over the side of the bed and stumbled into her kitchen, thankful for her light concealing curtains. When she got there, she noticed that Michael had washed his cup and put it away before he left. A smile fell across her lips, and her interest in him grew. She decided to make a trip to the library after her tea.

Around forty five minutes later, Roan entered the library, a hot thermos of tea in her hand. She wandered through the shelves for a bit looking at titles of books she may want to take out at a later time. More practical novels that would help her with her magic.

"Keeper~?" She called, with a smile. "I've brought you a present."

The Prime Dimension Empty Re: The Prime Dimension

The morning had passed slowly for Michael. In his library, cloistered away from the outside world under a shell of leather and paper, he would hardly know there was anything outside of the stacks. If he had his own kitchen, it'd have been very unlikely that he would ever leave. Michael only went out when it was important, or when he was commanded by the head Witch.

He spent most of the morning organizing the books after an errant spell reflected off someone's spell of protection, sending a small wave of force into the room, which knocked over one of the taller shelves. Thankfully, the solid oak frame held up against the force and the fall, but the books which sat on it were scattered about the space. Michael had just replaced the last few titles and moved toward the back of the library when he heard Roan's voice, her sing-song pattern bringing a small smile to his face and a wave of nervousness to his stomach.

The previous night had been a casual one, very different from the way he had expected it to go. He was grateful, happy even, for the way the morning had progressed in her apartment, but it was impossible for him to hold blind hope in his heart. It just wasn't a possibility for him anymore.

Michael walked back through the small maze of shelves until he came to the foyer, where he saw Roan still peeking around. "You know this is a library right? You're supposed to whisper." The young man chuckled softly, smiling as he attempt to joke around with the girl. He came to a stop a few feet from her, his hands tucked into his back pockets to conceal his popping knuckles, a nervous habit he'd developed after he was rescued.

Cocking his head to the side, his eyes scanned the girl quickly. "You brought me a present? Why?"

Roan just smiled. "My deepest apologies, Keeper, next time I'll stalk you through the shelves and whisper for you." She winked, then held out the thermos. "It's Earl Grey, and it's because you so politely washed your cup this morning. Plus you've been awake all day, and I have not."

She moved around him, and continued to peruse the books, occasionally stopping to read the title of one before putting it back in its place. "How many of these have you actually read? Surely not all of them?" Roan turned and looked back at him with a smile. Ever an interesting creature he turned out to be. She never thought they'd actually carry on a conversation, or that he would joke with her.

Not having been at the school for quite as long as some of the others, the first person she here ally had a conversation with was him. And Master Aier, but those were small and barely counted. She didnt have the same relationship with the woman as Michael had. It was nice to be able to freely chat.

The Prime Dimension Empty Re: The Prime Dimension

Michael shrugged, his eyes turning to the shelves, scanning them somewhat passively as his conversation with Roan continued. "Most of them," he replied. It seemed a more modest reply than 'All of them except three.' There was no reason to read the other three, as they applied to areas to which he was completely uninterested, and even believed to contain useless information. Perhaps if he had read them all, he would have potentially found something interesting.

"Not all of them are fun to read, but most have something useful. Your selections, for example..." Michael slowly paced toward one of the shelves Roan herself frequented. As he near the books, a few simple hand gestures highlighted several tomes, each one having been checked out by Roan. "This one has a formula for the remedy for the Bleeding Ears curse, while this one..." Michael touched the spine of another book. "... tells you the best plants to use for entangle spells."

The ghostly hues faded away quickly when Michael turned his back to the texts and directed his focus back to Roan. "Did you know that if you combine the sap from a mature oak tree with the recipe for a Scrying spell it will last twice as long?"
