"Oi, Aby, where you going?" Trips voice echoed down the long hallway, causing the young assassin to turn. She did not stop walking, she just continued on backwards.

"Got some things to do~" She responded with a wide grin.

"Not doing anything stupid, eh?" He jogged to catch up to her.

"Nah, you know me. If I was gonna do something stupid you know I'd invite you!" She laughed, still moving backward.

"You better. With me on your side we could make it even stupider." Trip chuckled matching her stride, when he caught sight of someone else. "Hey, hey, Roulette! I need you to do a favor for me. It's a matter of life or death."

"Of course. What is it?" The infiltrator stopped, his gaze wandering over the two of them.

"I need you to convince Sinister I'm dead."

With no hesitation, he responded, his face blank, though somewhat annoyed. "No." And with that Roulette moved around them, an unamused look on his face.

"Aw, c'mon, it's important!" Trip chased after the boy, stopping only once to turn and wave to Abyss. "Call me if you get into trouble!"

"You know I would~" Abyss snickered to herself as she turned and disappeared around the corner.

Before she could get too far, the head assassin stopped her, grabbing her arm and pulling her back in the opposite direction. "Oh. Hello Sin. Are we going on an adventure?"

"No." The man reaponded, pulling the girl along.

"Why are you kidnapping me? You don't have a degree in kidnapping do you?" Abyss gasped, her eyes wide, though a grin touched her lips.

"No."

"Are we going to find Trip? He may be dead. He was last seen speaking to Roulette who didn't seem to be amused by his requests."

"Yes." Sinister didn't look down at Abyss, though he was clearly unamused.

"Ooooh yay! Are you sure we're not going on an adventure?" Abyss righted herself and scurried after Sinister.

"We are going to see Spider."

*****

Going to see Spider wasn't just something you could say no to or evade if you wanted to. He was the head of Purgatory, the only one who could decided if you lived or if you died, and disobeying him was equivalent to going against the Family. If you went against the Family you were as good as dead.

There were appropriate times to mess around, but pulled into a meeting with Spider was not one of them. Especially if it was with more than one in the Family. That meant it was time for business.

Once the three of them gathered, Spider went straight to business. "I've got my eye on someone with Potential. The three of you are going to go and find out if he is worthy to be a part of my family."

Sinister moved forward to gather the data Spider had compiled on this person they were supposed to track down. He remained quiet and looked over the information. While he was doing so Trip raised an eyebrow, almost frowning.

"I understand sending Sin, and I only half understand sending me, but why send her?" Trip jerked his head towards Abyss, who was idly picking at a string in her shirt, concentrating on pulling out the thread without unraveling the fabric.

"She is the only one available at the moment that could survive should a situation arise." Was the only answer their leader provided. "Go. You've got a long way to travel."

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Post by Machine Man Tue Apr 04, 2017 11:44 am

The familiar smell of fresh coffee filled a small house just outside Kiev, Ukraine just as the sun began to crest over the horizon. Ezra had been up for a couple of hours by then, and stuck to his morning routine of exercise and a shower before he was allowed to have his breakfast. Though for many years he dreaded the early morning ritual, he knew that he should continue, no matter how tired he was. His childhood was full of teachings to push oneself to the limit and beyond, to grow and expand, for remaining stagnant would always end in an untimely demise.

The native-born Ukrainian sat at his table alone, with a plate almost overflowing with food and a steaming cup of black coffee above it. Ezra's mutation caused him to ingest copious amounts of calories after being used, which meant meals so large that it could feed a family of five. He grabbed the remote and flipped on his TV, an older piece of equipment that barely worked, though it still received enough channels to keeps its usefulness. It was always tuned to a news station; Ezra never had the desire to watch anything else.

On the screen was the headline story, a group of 19 men and woman slain the two vans in which they rode suffered a crippling malfunction, sending both of them off a bridge and into the river. Their identities had not been released, but the police were already searching for evidence.

'While police are still investigating the cause of the accident, initial reports state that both vehicles lost control after their tires suddenly blew out, causing to jump the guard rail, diving front-first into the river. The cause of the blowouts is still being investigated...'

'Nineteen people,' Ezra repeated in his mind. Nineteen lives extinguished, and he hardly batted an eye. He felt no remorse for it. In fact, if one could feel his emotions they might detect a sense of pride. The new never reports the entire truth, only what is convenient for them. They won't bring up the fact that the entire entourage was responsible for 20% of the trafficking of girls under the age of 15. They would not report that all of them had committed multiple murders, some of which including their own family members. Not one word would me muttered about the teenagers that are brainwashed, drugged, and recruited to them. No, all of that would skip the news, but he was relatively certain that they would be given a star-spangled send off once their bodies were recovered.

After breakfast, Ezra cleaned up the small mess he'd made, got dressed, and set out into the cold morning. As usual, he wore his t-shirt and jeans, even during the middle of winter. He never got cold, so there was no reason to wear a jacket other than for appearances. But he was never once asked if he was cold. No one bothered to speak to him. Whether it was because of his unusual eyes, or the way he carried himself, or a simple desire in others not to intrude or be bothered, it didn't matter. Ezra liked it that way, and he wasn't about to change directions on the subject.

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

The trip to Ukraine was an uneventful one, much to Abyss' dismay. She was looking forward to having fun but Sinister, as the lead, had forbade her from provoking any humans they crossed paths with. Trip did his best to keep the girl entertained because a bored Abyss could turn into a particularly nasty Abyss if the mood struck her.

When they arrived in the country she wasted no time in beginning her search, though she didn't need to. Sinister had all of the information, but he let her wander to alleviate some of her growing boredom and aggression. When the two males grew tired of her aimlessly exploring, they got her back on track and by noon they had reached the town where the Potential was supposed to have been residing in.

Made up of mostly humans, Sinister decided that they must maintain a low profile so they didn't draw any attention to themselves. Purgatory had many stations all over the world and once they settled in outside of the town, and changed their clothes to blend in, they set out in search of their target.

"I'm bored." Abyss whined for the umpteenth time, a dark aura creeping up her spine.

"Patience," Sinister said, knowing full well how to handle her growing frustration. He had gone on many missions with the girl to assure that she could maintain control while outside the safety of their manor walls.

"I've been patient. I want to see- ooh cake!" Immediately her attention shifted to a small bakery with cakes in the windows. She skipped over to the window nearly knocking over several people, but she didn't really care. "Trip! Can I have one?"

"A piece? I don't see why not." He grinned, shaking his head, moving over to her side.

"No. A whole one. I want a whole one."

Trip raised an eyebrow and looked back at Sinister. The man didn't seem to care either way, so he turned back to tell her, but she was gone. A quick survey of the area, and he found her skulking after a guy in a tee-shirt and jeans.

It looked like the cake had taken a backseat because she had found their target.

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Post by Machine Man Tue Apr 04, 2017 11:45 am

For most of his walk, Ezra appeared to be completely oblivious to the world, bobbing his head to the beat of music only he could hear. Occasionally he would stop to look at something in a store window, or to admire a nice car, which was not common in Ukraine. After a little while, however, Ezra started to notice that something was off. His experience had taught him to always look over his shoulder, to recognize patterns and commonalities, and to spot the slow, subtle changes in his environment that most people overlooked.

He gave no indication that he knew he was being followed, though it was almost ridiculous in Ezra's mind that anyone would fail so hard at trying to remain hidden. Still, he kept his face exactly the same, waiting for just the right moment to reveal himself and face his stalkers.

Most of the streets were crowded that morning, giving Ezra a chance to blend into the crowd, though he knew he would not be able to disappear completely. Most people wore thick coats and jackets, given the cold temperatures, while he walked about in a t-shirt as if it were the middle of summer. A series of twists and turns finally lead him to his destination of choice, a narrow alley between two large buildings. There was nothing above him but windows, and a very high wall behind him. There he waited for his pursuers to show themselves, so that he could erridicate them and move on with his day.

"Can I help you with something," Ezra questioned, his voice projecting down the alley's long brick walls.

If not on a mission where stealth was an absolute, Abyss did not take care to keeping herself hidden. While following the target Sinister and Trip walked alongside her, neither pulling her back or ordering a more subtle approach. It seemed as if he didn't know he was being followed but Sinister knew better. He had every accessible piece of information on the boy and knew he was trained better than that, yet he said nothing to his two companions.

When turning into the alley, he stopped Teip, the both of them waiting at the entrance while Abyss moved forward. She stopped behind him, her hands behind her back, fingers laced, a big smile on her face. "Nope. I don't need help with anything, thanks." Her tone was light, amused, her head cocked to the side. "My name is Abyss and I'm supposed to be observing you."

Trip snorted, trying to hold in his laughter at her blunt attitude. No one in Purgatory could get away with the innocence that surrounded her. Oh, if only the world knew the type of creature that roamed it's streets.

"You're the Potential, Ezra. A Meta with thermonuclear capabilities and a history of darkness and erratic behavior. It's interesting." She continued speaking as if they were friends, unaware of his intentions. Or maybe she just didn't care?

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Post by Machine Man Tue Apr 04, 2017 11:45 am

Ezra's eyes flicked quickly between the three mysterious people, sizing each of them up individually and gaining any knowledge that he could right from the beginning. There wasn't much to read, but he could make a few educated guesses based on what he saw. Again the grueling training he had endured in his youth was paying off. At times he thought he would never remember any of his father's teachings, but it seemed that every day his mind and his muscles knew exactly what they needed to do before he consciously made any decisions.

The girl was the first priority, as she was closest to Ezra. Intelligent and informed, she was undoubtedly the eccentric one of the group. Her tone and choice of words led him to suspect that she was the one in charge, even if unofficially. She was close, which suggested that either her ability to deal out damage was based on close proximity, or she had no intentions of fighting. Perhaps she was confident that she could beat him from that range. It didn't matter to Ezra, however. He could fight at any range.

The two boys at the end of the alley stood still and quiet, almost like bodyguards. One was far more stoic than the other, which suggested that he would be the more logical of the three, though that could have been a stretch.

Focusing his multi-colored eyes back on Abyss, his face hard as stone, Ezra spoke aloud so that all three of them could hear him. "I don't like to be 'observed'. If you've come to kill me, then let's get started. But if you really know anything about my history, you'd do better to find someone else to mess with." Ezra words were heavy like iron, with a weight of threat to each and every syllable. He didn't respond well to threats. Normally he would have tried harder to avoid a fight, as it tended to end with blood and death, but he would fight if anything happened.

Abyss laughed at his cold attitude, amused by it. She was surrounded by cold personalities daily so it didn't bother her at all. "Oh, no. If I wanted to kill you, Potential, you'd be dead. I've just never met a Meta," here she paused giggling before she continued, "before and I wanted to see you up close. Plus Spider would be very upset if I accidentally killed you or caused you harm."

"Abyss it is time to go." Sinister spoke up, stepping forward.

"Aw, really?" She turned her back to Ezra not worried in the slightest that he would try to attack her.

"Yes."

"Can I touch him?" The girl turned back towards Ezra still smiling.

"No." Sinister stepped up behind Abyss, his eyes on Ezra, cold and dark. "You've played enough."

"But-!" Abyss whirled around, a deep frown on her lips.

"How about we go get that cake you wanted?" Trip could feel the air around her shift, her mood going south.

"We just found him and I want to know more. I like his eyes. They're so pretty." She stared at Ezra, seeming to be genuinely interested and not at all afraid of him.

"It's time to go, Aby." Trip moved to her side, looping his arm through her's. "We've had a long journey. So let's go get that cake, relax, and we can start again tomorrow."

"He might be gone by tomorrow. The men following him stopped following him once I found him, but they'll be back for him." She sighed softly, holding onto Trip as he guided her away from Ezra.

Sinister waited until they were near the opening of the alley before he approached Ezra. He set a card down on a dumpster near him, then turned and began to follow his companions without a word. The card had the Purgatory emblem on the front and an address on the back. Nothing else.

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Post by Machine Man Tue Apr 04, 2017 11:45 am

Ezra's expression did not change. His hands remained in his pockets, showing his indifference and his lack of fear by the presence of the three from Purgatory. Genuinely he did not fear any of them, nor the ones Abyss referenced the men that were following him previously. That was nothing new to the Meta. Being watched was basically a common occurrence no matter where he went. Governments, private organizations, and the like wanted to know where he was at all times. The only times they weren't following him was when he meant to disappear to dispatch his next target.

Remaining silent as they bantered back and forth between each other, Ezra watched as the card was deposited on the nearby dumpster, waiting until all were out of the alley before he moved again. An overwhelming curiosity was the only reason he had for taking the card in the first place. He had no plans of actually going there, but it was good to note where possible enemy dens were hiding.

The one thing that made him think the hardest, however, was their reference to him as a Potential. What did that mean? Did they expect to recruit him into something? Were they referring to some untapped potential he had yet to discover? Rather than keep the slip of sturdy paper, Ezra took pictures of both sides with his phone then cast the card down the nearest sewer drain. He never took anything from anyone he didn't fully understand. He then left the alley and made his way back home, where he could research the address and the symbol.

The address on the card was the Purgatory safe house. It wasn't the one that the three were at but it was on the massive property that the Family owned. Even with the address, one wouldn't be able to locate it unless Purgatory wanted it to be found. People could walk past it and not even realize anything was there. So Sinister was not worried about the card he left.

Back at the Purgatory manor which, at the moment, only housed the three of them, Abyss was talking nonstop about her and Vigilances new school of burglary with majors in theft and minors of kidnapping and tax evasion. Trip, being who he was, humored her much to the annoyance of Sinister, who was going over Ezra's information.

"Go in the other room." Sinister spoke, barely looking up. Their loud chatter was annoying him.

"Okay!" Abyss grabbed Trip and her cake and the both of them left the room. They got down the hallway when Trip stopped and turned.

"Forgot something back there. I'll meet up with you."

"Okies dokie." She started down the hall, but didn't make it too far. An odd tingling began to creep up her spine, and the smile dissolved from her lips. Changing her direction Abyss made for the front door, moment later she was gone.

Trip returned and couldn't find her; immediately he knew what was happening. He needed to get Sinister and they needed to find Abyss. It had been too long since she'd had an episode, and in a town full of humans and a Meta with issues nothing good could come of it.

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

The walk home for Ezra was full of thought. Secret organizations came and went like the tides; if this card belonged to one of them, it meant that he could immediately dismiss it as just another startup wanting to gain the assistance of one of the most feared people in the world, even if the general populace was unaware that he was living right next door to them. Ezra had tried the group effort thing, and decided that it was not the thing for him. Too many chances to feel something other than indifference any cynicism. The mask he wore, he donned for a good reason, and he would not allow a few punk Metas to break it.

By the time he'd arrived at his humble home, Ezra had completely forgotten why he went out in the first place. His annoyance with himself took momentarily overrode the memory of the strange girl and her very different colleagues, but not for long. In a remarkably organized manner, Ezra began to go over the people he'd met in his life to try to ferret out who might have been behind the mysterious encounter, starting with the most likely candidates from his recent past.

Freesia Academy.

So many students he knew by name. They were faces he would never forget, not just because of his early conditioning, but because so many of them made a lasting impression and helped to shape his future, good or bad, into what it had become. Name after name went through his mind, but none of them could have possibly been behind it. The ones that survived were not that clever, and the dead ones were... well... dead.

'Ezra...?'

"Goddamnit..." Any time his thoughts strayed to the Academy, they always ended up back on Depth. There was only one way to push her out of her mind. Ezra went to the kitchen cabinet and took a large bottle of Vodka and tipped it up, draining a third of the contents immediately before he turned again and plopped down on his living room couch.

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Post by Machine Man Tue Apr 04, 2017 11:46 am

Abyss moved almost as if she were in a trance. She couldn't find the source of the tingling, but the longer she felt it, the more distorted her vision became. The noises became dull, then loud again; she stopped and placed her hands over her ears trying to block it out, but it wasn't outside noise. It was inside of her head. Voices whispered and shouted at her, echoing inside her mind.

She knew what it meant when the voices inside her head began to act up. There were too many humans around; if she killed innocents, Spider would be angry with her. Now, maybe if she could track down the men who were following their Potential earlier that day she could at least control some of the lust threatening to overtake her. The noise only grew louder, voices mixing, no longer making sense. She grasped at her head, her fingers tangling in her hair, and she took off. She didnt know where she was going she just had to get away from the humans.

By the time the full force of her bloodless hit, she had just gotten to the outskirts of the town. Her eyes went from her normal bright green to a deep red, the color of fire. Anyone who crossed her path would be in grave danger; Abyss no longer had control.

Even after an entire bottle, Ezra was not even tipsy. With a high core temperature and an accelerated metabolism, alcohol was not processed the same way as a normal human. What frustrated him more was that he had no more alcohol in his home, which meant either ending his night early or going out for more. Without a substance to change the path of his thinking, there was only thing that could correct it was a trip to his hidden spot.

Dressed just as he was a few hours ago during his last trip, Ezra hit the street and headed east, moving further and further away from town until he reached a large pond. It seemed that no one really knew anything about it, for he never saw another person there. Maybe there was some sort of local legend or myth about it, but whatever the reason, he was just happy to have something that was his own.

The water was clean and clear, and it reflected the setting sun as it started to hide behind the Carpathian mountains. So far removed from the public, the beautiful setting was an excellent place to cool off and meditate, but also could accommodate any need he had to vent frustration or anger. It was cold outside, but not cold enough for the pond to freeze over, so he stripped down and dove in, then began to paddle out into the middle where the pond was deepest.

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Post by Machine Man Tue Apr 04, 2017 11:46 am

Despite the lack of control, Abyss was observant, and focused. She was a silent and deadly killer while under control, but her accuracy and attention were more in tune. She heard noises in the woods she found herself in, but couldn't locate the a ounce of the noise. Unlucky it was for whomever she found. It just so happened to be a small group of men, and they seemed to be looking for something. Or someone. It was even more unlucky that one of them crossed directly in front the phoenix. His screams echoed in the woods as blood splattered the trees, flesh and bone tearing. A lump of what used to be human remained, piled in front of the girl.

Purple flame consumed the bloody mess, dissolving it to ash. The cries of torment drew the others to their location, but it was not her that would perish there.

The remaining men launched themselves at her all at once, militant training coming in to play as they approached her. It was futile. One by one their cries rebounded off the trees, echoing back through, filling the silence with terror and pain. It was that noise that drew Sinister and Trip to her, both having specific roles to play to bring her back down, and diffuse the situation.

"Aby it's time to stop now." Trip slowly approached her.

"It is time when I say it is time." Abyss responded coldly, her voice low, almost sounding like a growl.

"No. You've done enough. These were bad men, and now they're gone." His voice was soft, soothing.

"It's enough when I say it's enough!" Abyss snarled, the sound echoing across the trees.

"Enough." Sinister stepped forward, moving with purpose. He had enough of her temper tantrum and intended to put an end to it.

"I am not finished." She growled, her eyes narrowing dangerously.

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Post by Machine Man Tue Apr 04, 2017 11:47 am

Over and over the young man dove and resurfaced. A mist was beginning to form on the surface of the pond; every time Ezra's body broke the plane of water steam would rise from his pores, creating an ominous atmosphere within the serenity of the pond. The exercise and repetitive movements helped to calm his troubled mind, as it always had before. His regimented life as a child had taught him to find comfort in the details, to repeat an action so many times that he could do it without thinking, but he could also focus on those tasks and perfect the details.

The only thing that broke his concentration was the blood-curdling scream that echoed from not too far away. Ezra stopped dead for a moment, listening as more cries were added to the first, forming a chorus of terror in the night. For a moment Ezra wondered if some campers had run afoul of a predator, as it was not an uncommon occurrence in that area to see a bear in the woods. Soaking wet, Ezra pulled himself out of the pond and started walking to his clothes, drying himself off by cranking up his core and evaporating the moisture still clinging to his body.

He had clothed only the lower half of his body before he discovered the scene and three familiar faces. The two males looked just as they did before, but the girl... Abyss, her expression was much darker than before, as if she were a completely different person. A twin perhaps? Or maybe she was just insane. Either way, it didn't matter. Ezra continued his approach until he faced them openly in a small clearing. Abyss was to his two o'clock, while the two boys were at his ten. Blood stained the trees and grass nearby, but there were no bodies. Only ash.

"You make too much noise," he said dryly, not at all amused by the obvious alert that each man and woman had given before they perished. "Sloppy. It will get you caught eventually."

"You need to leave. You are not safe here." Sinister moved between Ezra and Abyss as soon as he made his appearance. Ezra didn't know what he had stumbled upon, and Sinisters top priority was to make sure he didn't end up dead. "Trip, take her and go. We will deal with her at the base." His orders were absolute.

Abyss, however, had different ideas. In her current state of mind she didn't care about the mission, she didn't care that he was a Potential. The only thing she saw was another body to be added to the pile of ash at her feet. "I'm not done. There's more." The air shifted around her, shadows moving towards her.

"Aby, c'mon. You can't." Trip grabbed her arm and pulled her towards him, holding onto her tightly.

"I can, and I will. If you don't remove your hand from me I will burn it off." Abyss hissed, her eyes locked on Ezra. He was her new target, her new goal. She wanted to hear his screams as she tore off his limbs one by one. She wanted to feel his hot blood under her hands, boiling and thick. She wanted to know what he tasted like. A wide grin spread across her lips, her body trembling.

"It's getting worse, Sinister." Trip tightened his grip on Abyss, pulling her back.

"I want to feel his bones breaking. I want to feel his blood between my fingers. I want to crush the life from him, and listen as he chokes on his own blood. I want to watch the life leave his beatodul, perfect eyes." She whispered softly, unable to tear her gaze from Ezra.

Hearing Abyss starting to spiral downward, Sinister disappeared. He appeared next to his two companions, pulling out a syringe and injecting some black substance into her neck. She growled angrily, resisting the effect of the drug Spider had developed, but she was unable. He knees gave out from under her and she slumped against Trip.

Watching the scene unfold was informative, though Ezra did not appear to be wholly concerned with the threats. In fact, the only attention he gave them was given merely because they had been spoken. With Ezra, threats carried no weight. He had felt pain far beyond anything that could be inflicted upon his body. His mind and his heart had already been fractured and broken. His soul had been torn apart. The only things left of the boy that one was was a body, a nuclear core, and a strange pair of eyes. "I go where I want to go."

Ezra had learned more information about the trio, including names and who served under who. Sinister had given a glimpse of his ability, though he was sure there was more to it. Again he stepped forward, where the two men were holding up the female, who had apparently lost complete control of herself. It disgusted him that they thought they could recruit him into a group where blood-lust was considered acceptable.

"You aren't making a very good impression so far," he continued, his accent completely American neutral. "So far all I have seen in the three of you is a rabid wolf and two dog-walkers. I cannot imagine what business you are in, but whatever it is, I suggest you be careful. Some of us are watching, even if it doesn't look like we are."

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Sinister smirked, his eyes moving from Abyss to Ezra. "Only a child would think so closemindedly." With those ad his only words, he turned and began to walk back through the woods, disappearing into the shadows.

Trip snorted, shifting Abyss up onto his shoulder. "We are not like the rest, dude. Just like your reasons for being who you are, she's got reasons for being who she is. Do you see her judging you?"

Abyss gasped and rolled off of Trips shoulder, bouncing back up to her feet. Her eyes had returned to green, and she looked from him to Ezra and back again. "Did we go on an adventure? I love adventures! Can we go again?"

"Nah. It's time to go back. Maybe we can convince Sin to play a game with us."

"Ooooh! Do you think he'll play hide and seek? He's really good at hiding." Abyss began to skip away, turning once and smiling back at Ezra. "Bye bye~ I hope it works out with you cause I really like your eyes. They're pretty, y'know?" She waved and disappeared into the trees with Trip.

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Post by Machine Man Tue Apr 04, 2017 11:47 am

"This feels like it's not going to go away any time soon..." Ezra's lament pushed painfully on his brain, which he carried back to his home. The naivety of some astounded him, even after all his years of dealing with naive people.Trip seemed to believe that his judgement was meant to be insulting, when all he was actually doing was making an observation. If their behavior had been more professional and stable, he would have commented on that with the same objective, though his words would have been different. Sinister seemed very self-absorbed to Ezra, believing himself to be better somehow, which annoyed Ezra even more.

As for the girl, she was the enigma of the group, the wildcard that was not so easy to read, though he stood firmly on his observation of Abyss to the letter. She reminded him of a pup, cute and playful and curious, who later ran into a rabid predator, wounding and turning her into something chaotic and violent. It wasn't his fault if none of them could handle the truth. If they couldn't then he certainly had no real desire to spend any time with them.

Back at his home, Ezra decided it was time to leave. He did not hurry though; he was not afraid or in a panic. He didn't have much, having chosen to live a simple life with only a few choice distractions. The three claimed to have been watching him for a long time, leading him to suspect that either they had very well-trained operatives or could track his whereabouts using technology or a superhuman ability. He did hope, however, that they would read between the lines and understand that he wanted to be left alone.

He packed light, taking only a large backpack, which he loaded up with essentials, leaving all of his wants behind. Ezra tossed the card Sinister had given him into the fireplace and let it burn. While he had no real respect for them at that point, a secret organization was meant to be secret. He was not in the business of making enemies, only burning bridges.

"Stop a fight before it even begins. Right again, Papa."

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Abyss and Trip hung out for a while, then went their separate ways for the night. Sinister wasn't anywhere to be found, but it was normal for him to disappear so they hadn't thought of it. When Trip went to bed, Abyss found her way to the roof of the manor and sat up on one of the highest peaks. She let the wind tousle her hair, not bothering to brush it out of her face. For some reason she couldn't get the Potentials unique eyes out of her head.

Her own bright hues traveled over the landscape, taking in the scenery bathed in moonlight. The only missions she'd ever been on were assassination missions. It was new to her that there was no one to kill. From Ezra's attitude she couldn't determine if she was doing it right or not. She'd never failed a mission before, what if Spider wanted him to join, but he didn't because of her? He would punish her for sure. The last time she did something he didn't like he put her in the sensory deprivation room, and left her there for weeks. That wasn't something she wanted to experience again.

"Ricochet what am I gonna do? I don't have a degree in people skills. I have a degree in people kills." Abyss laughed out loud, leaning back on her hands, her pet, Ricochet, sitting on the roof beside her. "Maybe I should stay home tomorrow and let Sin and Trip go find him.."

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Ezra sped down the old road well over the speed limit, but he didn't think much about it since there wasn't really anyone on the roads at that time of night. It would have been easy enough to leave in the morning, but Ezra had always been a night owl, so driving in the darkness did not bother him. He did, however, need to make a stop before getting too far, so he pulled into a diner off the main road to have some dinner and coffee.

Something like a Denny's in America, it was a small diner, in need of an update but not overly dirty or run down. It was just close enough to the capitol to see enough business to stay afloat, but far enough out that people did not expect it to be held to high standards. Ezra sat at a small table meant for two, ordered a carafe of black coffee and a steak dinner, then pulled a small notebook out of his pocket and began writing.

A habit from his youth, Ezra documented everything. Blessed with a keen memory, he could free-hand draw and record events he had witnessed over the past several days perfectly, the memories only starting to degrade after a week or two. So to keep his thoughts straight over a long period of time, Ezra had taken to drawing and writing everything down for future reference. He kept exceptional notes.

When the air suddenly changed, Ezra did not even look up. The paper under his hand fluttered slightly at the corners as a brief rush of air attempted to carry them off. Ezra continued to write, his eyes firmly locked on the paper.

"Evening, Sinister."

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Sinister had been following Ezra since he parted ways with Trip and Abyss. It was a suspicion he had, and was glad he had done so. It would have been a pain in his ass if he had to search for him all over again. So when he stopped at a diner, Sinister decided that it was time to formally introduce himself. Without his annoying companions.

"Ezra." Sinister returned the greeting, his voice void of emotion. For a long moment he just watched him take his notes before he chose to speak again.

"Countless organizations have come begging for your skill, and you have denied each and every one, deciding to dole out your own justice, forever under the watchful eye of someone else." He began slowly, his intent not to intimidate, but just to casually talk. "Where we come from we do not care who you are, or what your past is. We do not pick and choose our Potentials to boost our own reputation. It is quite the opposite. We like to operate in secrecy."

"Whether you have heard of us or not is not my concern. I am merely here to observe you and offer my opinion on whether or not you would fit with our Family. Before you decide to tuck tail and run, I will offer you this moment to consider what it is we are trying to extend to you." Sinister stopped speaking as a couple walked by, ever wary of whomever may be listening. "I represent an organization that seeks to protect the weak. We destroy the corrupt and keep those safe that are unable to help themselves."

He stood up and moved to leave. "The address on the card will be there should you need a safe place to hide from watchful eyes. I can guarantee no one will find you there. No matter where you go, we three will find you until we are called back home. I recommend you consider your options. Purgatory awaits your response." And with that he was gone again.

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Post by Machine Man Tue Apr 04, 2017 11:48 am

A lesser man would have roasted the insulting man where he stood, but Ezra was better than that. Instead he watched him leave with a simple scowl on his face. He went back to his meal, picking at it with a sort of distant interest. Once he'd finished, he paid his bill and went back to his car, the memories of what was said still lingering in his mind. Who was that man to think he had Ezra so figured out? Sinister had no idea who he was or what he had been though. The hell he'd experienced staring into the soul of the one he loved just as it left her body. He didn't the rage he felt in his heart every single time he saw a human, or how badly he just wanted to melt anyone who crossed him the wrong way.

Sitting in the driver's seat, he stared at his steering wheel, debating upon which direction he should travel. He could continue on his journey and relocate, or he could turn around and go back to the house on the card and tell them exactly what he expected what he wanted them to do. After a brief debate, Ezra decided on the later. He pulled the address upon his phone and followed the directions until he had reached the location, making him wonder how it was that he had missed it before.

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Sinister arrived back at the manor, just as several other cloaked figures did. A frown tugged at the corners of his lips, but he met up with them all in the main area of the hluse recognizing them as his team. Spider and Candor were with them as well as two hooded men in chains. Something happened. Spider would not have come all that way from the Baseland if it was not important.

Abyss bounced into the room, closely followed by Trip, both of whom stopped short, confusion written across their faces.

"We have a problem." Spider spoke, moving forward and sitting in the high backed chair against the far wall. It gave him a view of the room, and indicated his position.

"Ooooh another adventure!" Abyss grinned. The only time the whole assassination team gathered was when someone needed to die.

"Endgame had chosen to side with our enemy, and led one of our own into a trap." Spider continued on as if Abyss had never spoken. "Hm. We have a guest." He knew Ezra had arrived, and turned his attention towards the door.

Purgatory- Phoenix Saga Empty Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Ezra did not knock before opening the door. He didn't really see a point in it. They were expecting him, so there was no reason to try to announce his presence as if they weren't waiting for him. It didn't take long to find the rest of them gathered together, including some faces he did not recognize, which didn't worry him as it might have worried others. He strode into the room, hands in his pockets like always. His power was always active, but not always in use.

"Sinister, Abyss, and Trip. You have a nice place here. Hard to find unless you know where to look. I'll admit that you do seem to know a few things about staying in the shadows." Ezra finally came to a stop several paces off the closest Purgatory members and their captives, his eyes narrow and analytic.

"If i've interrupted something I can wait in another room, though what i have to say should not take long."

"No, please, have a seat." Spider indicated many of the open seats in the room, then turned his eyes over to Abyss. "As I was saying, Endgame has betrayed our Family, and led one of our own into a trap. Fourteen now has possession of Array, and you are my chosen to bring her back safely."

As he spoke, Abyss felt her blood run cold, and everything around her seemed to come to a grinding halt. Array had been taken? By Fourteen? Suddenly it felt too hot in that room, too crowded, too noisy. Why was there so much noise?

"Trip, you and Demise are to stay here with Abyss and-"

"I'm not going?" Abyss cut Spider off, her voice gasping and quiet.

While others in the room seemed disgusted by her lack of respect, Spider remained unfazed. "No. You are to remain here. Candor will watch Endgame and his accomplice, and the rest of us will bring her back unharmed."

"But... Array is... but..." Abyss didn't want to go against Spider, but that was her sister, her twin. Array was all she had.

A deep chuckling came from one of the captives, and he lifted his head, looking directly at Abyss. "It's been a long time, wayward one. We're going to have the same fun with your sister that we had with you."

Abyss slowly turned to look upon the face of one of her tormentors. Fire bled into her eyes, consuming the emerald hue. The air around her shifted, but before she could take a breath..

"Abyss, sit down." Spider spoke clearly and loudly, causing her to turn back to face him. Her hues were half green, half fire, and it was evident that she was struggling to keep control. "Candor, silence him, and remove him from my sight." The woman next to him did as he asked, easily dragging both captives from the room. "Now, we are going to approach this with caution. They are no doubt expecting us. Unnecessary deaths will cost you dearly, so proceed carefully."

Abyss couldn't hear Spider anymore. The noise was just too loud, memories surfacing that she thought she'd buried a long time ago. Her gaze drifted around the room, struggling to keep the darkness under control, when she landed on Ezra. Without realizing it, she stood up and walked towards him until she was standing directly in front of him.

"Please help her." Her voice was barely above a whisper. "My sister... please... help her?"

All eyes were on the two of them, Spider seeming almost amused. "If he agrees, give him your cloak. He will need to be hidden. When we return we can discuss what you came here to say, Ezra. If you do not want to go, would you mind waiting? It should not take long."
