Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Most of the conversation went by Ezra with only a mild amount of interest, his attention diverted by the two captives, watching their every move. It was an old habit of his, never to turn his back on prisoners. He'd seen what would happen when someone stopped watching the ones in custody, seen the aftermath of one's mistake, the landscape laid waste by errant hostages because those charged with guarding them had turned their attention away for more than a few seconds.

When they were escorted away from the main room, Ezra turned his gaze back to the one they called Spider and studied him carefully. Obviously the one in charge, the others, even Abyss, seemed to snap to at the sound of his voice. He wasn't just respected for his position, he was almost feared. He had no idea what powers he possessed, but Ezra secretly found himself wanting to find out.

Abyss' approach again pulled Ezra to the present, the way the fire in her eyes spoke volumes of her anger and fear. The proposal was an interesting one. He had no real desire to join their little cult, but there was a chance for him to save another life. How could he say no with Abyss standing right there, tears forming and evaporating immediately.

"I came simply to tell you that I have no interest in joining your group. However, I made a promise that I would take every opportunity i could to help those who need it." Ezra took a moment to regard each and every one in the room.

"Tell me what you know."

Spider nodded to Sinister who moved forward pulling a map of the area from underneath his cloak. The other memebers of the team moved in closer to Spider, Sinister, and Ezra and the details for the plan were laid out. Abyss was grateful that Ezra had agreed to help out, but she was unusually somber, worry out weighing everything.

Trip moved to her side and gently led her away from the others. "She'll be fine, Aby." He tried to reassure her, but she wasn't really listening.

Silently she unhooked the cloak from around her neck, holding it close until plans had been finialized. When the other Ghosts began to prepare for leaving, she approached Ezra, holding out her cloak to him. It was enchanted so no one would be able to see his face, and it would adjust to his size though she was shorter than he was.

"Thank you." Was all she said as she handed him the cloth; then she turned and left the room, climbing the stairs heading towards the roof. For some reason, being up high with the cold wind calmed her. It felt freeing, and the cool air blowing across her skin felt like it was whisking her problems and worries away.

"Please come back.."

Ezra took the robe as it had been offered, even ruffled Abyss' hair a bit, though his face remained somber. The gravity of the situation had obviously pushed the girl's enthusiasm into the floor, which was almost unsettling to the young Ukrainian man, and that was something that not a lot of people could do. He said nothing to her, but the gesture meant more in his mind than it likely did to anyone else, so he did not feel the need to speak. Ezra did not give false hope.

Turning back to the map, Ezra surveyed the layout of the land and the building carefully, using his background to formulate a plan. Though he was quiet for most of the meeting, he was not afraid to insert his thoughts and opinions. Purgatory had, apparently, been around for a long time, but his lack of years was made up for in experience and a good head on his shoulders.

"At this moment, I doubt the girl will be heavily guarded. Fourteen will know that we are planning a rescue but that it must be thought out carefully. Once they spot us, however, they will increase their security and possibly move her to a more secure location. We need someone watching the exits in case they try to escape. The rest of us, I believe will have a choice. Either we can create a distraction to draw out most of their aggressors so a small team can slip in, retrieve Array, then evac without being seen. Or, we can all try to sneak in without being detected."

Ezra brought his eyes up to those gathered around the table to gauge their reactions. "The first idea is more dangerous because we will be split up, but a larger group makes stealth more difficult. If they are rivals of yours, it won't be as simple as fighting normal humans. I suggest the first plan, and am willing to be the distraction. Stealth really isn't my forte."

Arrow spoke up then, pointing at a location on the map. "This is where they are most likely keeping her. If you cause a big enough distraction here," he indicated another section of the map, "I will be back here, covering you to make sure you remain safe. If the other group in this area they will be able to get in and out safely."

"They'll most likely anticipate a distraction, so we will split. One enter here, the other here." Grave pointed out another location on the map, indicating their three points of movement.

Spider sat back and watched, approving of their movements. Once it was decided, he stood up, pulling his hood up, concealing his face. "It is decided then. We move now. The longer this takes the more danger Array is in." His gaze lingered on Ezra for a moment, then he proceeded towards the door, his subordinates following. He paused, and turned to look at them all again. "No unnecessary deaths. If there is a problem we pull back, I will not risk more casualties."

With those words he set off towards Fourteens location, disappearing into the darkness. On the roof Abyss watched the team move, anxiety welling up inside her chest.

As he listened to the plan, Ezra stayed completely silent, absorbing every single bit of information delivered to him. In his mind he was already calculating possible retaliations, where reinforcements might come from and how many he could see at a minimum. Without an eye-witness report of the premises, there was no way of knowing if anything existed underneath, like a basement structure that would house more members of Fourteen. He did not know how recent the map had been created, so there could have been challenges in the landscape. What defenses had been created and hidden from view?

More annoying than any of that was the rule regarding death. What did Spider consider to be unnecessary? Of course the death of innocents was out, which made perfect sense to him and would not be an issue. But what about members of Fourteen? Was he only allowed to kill them if they posed an immediate threat, or was he being told that he could not kill unless a life was in danger? Ezra did not have a reputation for leaving future threats alive. That didn't mean he killed everyone, but he was good at reading people. If he thought he would have to fight them again, it was better to take the life then risk losing more.

Accompanying the group, Ezra hung back behind them a few paces. It might have been seen as distrust or social anxiety, but really it was neither. It gave him time to figure out what he wanted to do and how, though much would not be decided until they arrived. He did know one thing, and that was that he liked the cloak.

When the group neared Fourteens location, the group splintered into three. Arrow stayed behind with Ezra to provide long distance support when he created a distraction, while Grave, Sinister, and Rift went one way and Spider and Ruse went another.

Arrow waited for them to be gone before he pulled an old fashioned looking bow from his back. He was not a Meta, he was human, but his skill was unparalleled. "When I recieve the signal you will move forward and create a distraction. You are only to take a life if yours is in immediate danger." He paused for a moment, his deep blue eyes piercing the darkness. "We may be surrounded by enemies, but there is a time and a place to rid the world of their ilk and own is not that time."

With those words, he launched himself into the trees and his amount the branches and leaves. Minutes passed before Arrow seemed to recieve a silent signal. "Go." The word was whispered harshly on the wind.

A soft snort was the only reply Ezra gave Arrow before he disappeared. Not being able to kill the ones holding Array hostage made no sense; why leave enemies standing if one didn't have to? They would just try again, or they would do something else that endangered the life on an innocent. He wasn't a member of Purgatory, however. Spider was not his superior, nor was Arrow. He was not bound by any of their rules, but there could be negative repercussions for Purgatory. All out war could cause civilian lives, and that was not acceptable.

When the signal was given, Ezra moved out, darting forward much faster deceptively fast until the manor came into view. He then stopped and leveled his gaze upon the structure as energy began to grow within him. The air around his body became incredibly hot, enough to cause some of the vegetation around him to dry up and wilt. Blasts of yellow energy, emitted from random points on his body, slammed into the house with enough force to make it shake and steam, but not enough to fully penetrate the walls, as Ezra did not want to risk killing Array on accident.

Faster than he expected, several members of Fourteen appeared suddenly, preparing their counter attack. Immediately Ezra's blasts stopped. His body began to glow green then as he waited for the first set of attacks to come in. He had no idea what to expect, so it seemed easiest to see what they could do before he neutralized them.

As members of Fourteen flocked to the source of the attacks, the two other groups converged on the house. They were called Ghosts for a reason. Thanks to Ezra they were able to pass into the house unnoticed and in complete silence. The search began then.

Outside, Arrow waited, an arrow drawn on his bow, his gaze steady. Seeing the enemies lurch forward towards their temporary companion, he released his first arrow, a second and third following almost instantly. They did not kill any of the targets they hit, but they did indeed hit their mark. Memebers began to drop like flies, confused as to where the secondary assault was coming from. The group split, one going to find Arrow, the other focusing their attention on the Meta attacking their home.

Some Fourteen members were plainly human, while others were cyber-Meta, artificially upgraded humans to match their powerful enemies from Purgatory. They did not attack Ezra to neutralize, they attacked to kill.

Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Assuming that their prey was more of a glass cannon, several Fourteen members aimed to close the distance quickly where their brawling and melee skills would be more effective. Of course that did not mean that they were right, or that Ezra would allow them to approach so easily. Smaller beams of light struck the more clumsy aggressors, catching them through the stomach, legs, and shoulders. True to his word, he was not killing any of them, though they did not return that kindness.

Some came with weapons, wielding knives, swords, and even axes. Others were, themselves, weapons, fake Metas who thought they could contend with the real thing with a few drugs and some implants. Of all the people that Ezra could hate, he despised Cyber-Metas the most, for they carried their bigotry through the procedure and enhanced their bodies in order to hurt real Meta-humans.

Those he saved for last.

The humans were easy enough to handle. Much to their dismay, Ezra was not a slouch in hand-to-hand combat. Trained to fight and kill, it was more difficult for him to not end many of the foes he faced than it was to deal with them in general. Without breaking a sweat he had broken two arms, six jaws, one leg, countless ribs, and caused several concussions. The CM's took a bit more doing, but still they were no matched for the high-level Meta they faced.

A knife stabbed from the side, aiming to pierce Ezra's carotid artery while another attack came in toward his legs. In a single move he spun, lifting one foot up to let the swipe pass by without making contact. The blade caught his skin, though it managed only to break the skin, not even close to deep enough to inflict deadly damage. The man attacking his legs quickly found himself in a bad spot. Ezra's fist connected with the back of his skull, sending his face to the dirt and knocking him out cold.

The one with the knife fared no better. He took another swipe at Ezra, then another, each one slicing harmlessly through the air. The experienced Meta countered, folding his arm and thrusting it back on him, burying the bladed steel in his opposite shoulder. With practiced perfection another blast fired from Ezra's body, completely enveloping the injured aggressor's arm up to the elbow, effectively stripping it of flesh, leaving only a singed bone and a few bits of meat still dangling from the damaged body structure. His screams of agony echoed all around them, silenced quickly when Ezra's fist found his stomach, knocking the wind out of him before he was beaten to near-death.

Splattered with blood and bleeding a bit himself from a few cuts, Ezra took a look around for more bad-guys to burn, but sighed when he did not actually see any worth his time. With that, he walked slowly toward the building to check on the recovery team, his body steaming heavily.

Arrow stayed behind to finish neutralizing the memebers of Fourteen, making sure they were all out cold, before he followed Ezra. By the time he arrived at the designated meeting point, both groups had pulled up as well, an unconscious Array in Graves arms. Every time he saw the girl it amazed him how similar, yet different, the two girls were. Their faces were identical, their body types were identical, but where Abyss had the short black hair and green eyes, Array had medium length golden blonde hair and amber colored eyes. Aside from that, their personalities couldn't be anymore opposite. She was not erratic, or overwhelmed by blood-lust. In fact, Array didn't have any of the normal Phoenix traits, it's why they alienated her and sent her to the streets in the first place.

"Head to the manor. Once we are there we will regroup and head home." Spider dismissed his team, then turned back to Fourteens hideaway. There was always a time and a place to destroy your enemies, and now was the time. Once the Ghosts were gone he went to work, by the time the sun would rise the next day, there would be nothing but a crater where the building once stood.

***

Back at the house Abyss paced, her body shaking. It was taking every ounce of willpower she had to not leave in search of her sister. Only when she heard footsteps to the door did she stop moving. Demise and Trip were also waiting, but none were on edge; they could discern the difference between enemy footfalls and friendly ones.

Sinister was the first to enter, followed by Grave, and after that Abyss didn't care. She rushed to her sisters side, her eyes wide, and full of fear. She was lain on the couch, and it didn't take her long to open her eyes. Immediately Abyss began to speak, rapidly, in their native language. She may not have much of a memory, but it was like riding a bike, and she never completely forgot. Sensing her twins distress, Array just smiled.

When Spider finally walked in, they turned to face him. "The retrieval was a success. Now that we know she is safe and with us again," he locked his gaze directly on Abyss, "We must get back. Patch will want to get a look at her and he must clear her before she is able to continue."

Ezra said nothing on the trek back to the manor, his thoughts still lingering on the fight. From what he saw, Fourteen did not pose such a serious threat as he once believed. Maybe those were just the third string players of a much greater and more power army, but there was something about that which bothered him deeply. Closing his eyes, Ezra went over the different scenarios in his mind, hoping to find one that lead him down a better road, but he found no comfort, only more questions.

Wanting to give the twins a chance to reunite, Ezra lingered outside the door until Spider spoke up about leaving. He could no longer hold back his urge to question what had happened, and he still was not sure where "back" was, how long it would take to get there, or if he was even willing to accompany them. Still, he had a duty to share his knowledge with them, though he owed them nothing personally.

"Why was that so easy," he finally asked. Feeling eyes fall on him, Ezra explained his question further. "I saw nothing in their ranks that indicated that they were much of a threat. At first I thought that perhaps none of you are as strong as I originally estimated, but have since dismissed that possibility." Stepping further into the manor, he stepped around Spider then turned his eyes to Array and Abyss.

"The traitor in your midst could have handed all of you over at once. Set a trap using the girl as bait. Yet instead, they guarded her only minimally. I don't believe Array was the actual target."

"You are correct in assuming that she was not their target." Spider sat down in his high backed chair, looking over his subordinates. "What they want is information that only I, and a few select others, have access to. Our enemies are foolish enough to believe that we will crumble if one of our own is taken." He looked at the twins, then back over to Ezra. "Fourteen is comprised of ruthless, brainless human trash. They have no organization, nor morals, and will take what they want harming innocents as they see fit. We will not allow that to continue on."

Abyss turned her gaze away, picking at the loose strands on Arrays shirt, brushing dirt from her clothes. She didn't want to have to remember what they did.

"That is enough now." Spider stood and headed towards the door. "Take Array home, and see to it that she visits Patch." The Ghosts moved as he ordered, the twins saying a dreaded goodbye, but Abyss managed a wide smile, hiding her sadness and burying it deep. As they left, leaving Trip, Sinister and Abyss with Spider and Ezra, the leader turned to face the Meta. "I respect your decision to not join our Family, but would you mind walking with me? I get the notion there is something more you would like to know."

"There is always something more to know." Ezra accepted the invitation to walk purely to gather information. We was not worried, for he believed that they did not mean to harm him. If they did, it would have happened back at the Fourteen manor where they could have disposed of him and his corpse easily enough, along with the others. Crossing the room, Ezra stood next to Spider and waited for everyone else to vacate.

"You are not Metas. None of you. You appear human, but you are no more normal than I am. Yet despite all that, Abyss is less like any of you. Her mind is fractured. I sense strange energy from her, something i've never encountered before." Ezra's curiosity was simply to great to ignlre any longer. He had to know what the girl wa, no matter what.

Re: Purgatory- Phoenix Saga

Post by Machine Man on Tue Apr 04, 2017 11:51 am

"We all go through trials. Things life throws at us to break our minds, our spirits. It turns us cold, and hostile, but eventually we walk away stronger. Abyss has been through more than any being should have to endure." Spider began to walk slowly,, his gaze drifting toward Ezra every now and then. "Due to certain circumstances she lost her memory; with that memory she lost her family, her life, and the control she trained her whole life to obtain. She was cast out and thrown aside much like her sister. I brought her into my family."

Pausing, he turned to face Ezra, his expression dark. "I do not take my family lightly, if one of us is harmed, all of us are harmed. I failed Abyss not long after she joined us. Fourteen had taken her in search of the same information they tried to get from Array. Regrettably we did not have the manpower to retrieve her immediately and she remained with them for over six months. The torture she endured while locked in their facility broke her mind. Shattered the remains of what sanity she had left. That brings us to the unstable, bloodthirsty mess she is now." He continued to walk, his pace slow, leisurely. "Because of my failure to protect my own, I am creating a medicine that will aid her in suppressing the dark urges, and during that time I am attempting to return her control."

The two had found themselves at the front door of the manor, indicating that he was going to depart shortly. "It is taking longer than I'd hoped as I am a very busy man. There is none other within Purgatory that has the required patience, and will to withstand her prescence for more than a few moments." Spider glanced out the window, and nodded once. "It is time for me to go. You are more than welcome to stay as long as you like. I've already given the order that those three will remain here with you until then."

Spider opened the door, but paused. "Ah, I forgot to mention, Abyss and Array are Phoenix twins. But where Array has her wings, Abyss had her's broken and removed by those she used to call family. She does not know what she is, nor can she. In her culture a Phoenix without wings is as good as dead." With those words, Spider turned and left, once again disappearing into the night.

Ezra listened carefully as they walked, piecing together the information given to him by the leader of Purgatory. It was a lot to absorb for a normal person, but Ezra caught on very quickly, his mind absorbing everything he was told more quickly due to increased energy for neutron firing in his brain. He processed the information just as quickly, and committed it to memory as his father taught him, giving him a good view of the big picture but keeping data separate and compartmentalized for easy recall.

Had Spider waited just a little longer before leaving, Ezra would have offered to help, knowing exactly how it felt to lose one's mind due to severe mental and emotional trauma. He, too, had his world shattered, but was spared the feeling of having limbs ripped off his body. He understood well the thirst for vengeance and the random lust for blood. Instead, Ezra made the choice to close himself off. He kept no friends, leaving behind the last of his friendships in the halls of Freesia Academy. The only family he had left was his sister, Emma, but he had not seen her since his days at the Academy, when she tried to kill him.

There was nothing familiar except the sound of silence and the voice in his mind, the female one that whispered to him when his mind was not otherwise occupied. That was the burden he carried, the final weight in a large pile of mistakes and regrets that he will never really be rid of. Imprisoned in his own mind by his own past, Ezra had to become iron. He would not allow that to happen again.

Turning back to the trio, Ezra's eyes flicked to Abyss briefly, then back to Sinister. With his hands shoved in his pockets, another psychological tactic garnered from the wealth of knowledge his father bestowed upon him, he approached. "I still worry that there is more to this situation than your leader sees, though he is very sharp. My concern is that he is stretched too thin, and that could come back to haunt you all, especially if I am correct." Ezra did not intend for his statement to be taken as an insult. Quite the contrary, actually. He found that he and Spider has quite a bit in common.

"That being said, I have decided to help you. My knowledge and upbringing could be used as an asset to aid Abyss in recapturing her memory." He could see the girl out of the corner of his eye, though he did not look at her straight on. "If her blood-lust cannot be contained, it poses a very real threat to the mundane, not to mention the risk of exposing you and the rest of your... family. This does not mean that I am joining your cult, merely offering my expertise and lending you my strength until I am no longer needed. Will you accept?"

Sinister stepped forward, "We will be most grateful for any assistance you may provide." He turned to Abyss who hadn't been listening since they all left with Array; she just stood at the window staring out at the darkness around them, as if she were looking for something, you faraway look in her eyes. "Abyss." Sinister said sharply.

The girl turned, the look fading, replaced with a bright smile. She grinned at Ezra and laced her fingers together behind her back. "So you're gonna stay? I'm super excited!" Bouncing towards him, she stopped just short of him and stared up at him, her head tilted to the side. "We are going to have so much fun!"

"Trip and I will assist if you require it, however, we will not interfere if she gets out of control unless your life is in immediate danger. For tonight it is time to rest." Sinister was very to the point, and he didn't care if what he said offended someone.

"Ooooh can I show him his room? Can I? I promise I won't touch him." Abyss grinned, her eyes wide and excited.

"You may. But you have to be up for your training by sunrise. If you do not sleep it is on you." Sinister nodded once to Ezra, then turned and disappeared down the hallway.

"Wanna play hide and seek? Or tag? Or charades? Or karaoke? Or-"

"Aby there's no time for games now. Remember what Spider said." Trip shook his head laughing, and the smile fell from her lips.

"Okay. I still get to show him to his room. C'mon~"

Ezra's eyes opened wide, suddenly thrust into the role of a babysitter, a caretaker of an unstable Phoenix with no wings. How in the world could he be expected to keep up with such a character as Abyss? Her shifts in mood could take place at any moment. Child-like innocence could suddenly give way to blind rage and bloodlust, without warning. How could he take on such a responsibility when he had failed others so miserably in the past?

"Fine," he said with a sigh. "Lead on." There was little he could do to discourage the energetic creature, so rather than fight it, he decided to go with it. At least to a point. The edge was as sharp as a razor. Ezra followed Abyss through the home until they reached his room, up the stairs and to the right. The room was relatively nice in and of itself, with nice furniture and a window view that overlooked the vast landscape to the east. Certainly a step up from his apartment in Kiev.

"It is quite nice. Nicer than I assumed, anyway. Where does everyone else sleep?"

Abyss stood just outside of his room, not daring to venture any further. "We have a lot of safe houses, but most of the family stays at the main house. It's.. halfway around the world. I don't go there often." Until she was safe to be around other people, she had to stay in the safe houses way out of the way. Sometimes she had a companion, but most times she was alone.

"Are you sure you don't want to play a game with me? I don't cheat." She cocked her head to the side, and stared into the room. She had learned the hard way that it was not a good idea to go into someone else's room if not given permission first. "Probably not," she grinned and backed up away from the door. "If you need me, or decide you really do want to play with me, my room is right there." She pointed three doors down the hall on the left.

"I'm really happy you decided to stay~ I get to look at your eyes more. They're so pretty." Abyss spun and bounced down the hallway towards her room, stopping as she got to her door, to look back at Ezra. "Night~ see you tomorrow~"

Ezra was burning toward the mobile Abyss, blasting and beaming away until she had figured out what he was doing. It was becoming more and more difficult to herd her in the proper direction; many times he had to make adjustments when she ran the wrong way. Her adaptability was proving to be much stronger than he originally believed it would be, so he did the only thing he could do, short of giving up completely.

The Meta launched a powerful wave of energy, arcing in front of Abyss like a scythe, tearing up the ground in a giant swath while simultaneously beaming to her sides and behind her, leaving her no choice but to jump. Ezra estimated that to be the best course of action, as it would keep her moving in a straight line while he rocketed toward her, his arms outstretched to tag her. All he had to do was touch her...

As much as she tried not to, Abyss was forced to follow exactly where he wanted her to go. When the ground split, she had to jump or stop completely and be trapped for him to catch her. Putting power to get legs, she jumped high, closing her eyes for just a moment, feeling the wind rush past her. When she opened her eyes again, she realized a second too late that she needed to adjust her trajectoryor she'd slam into a tree. Twisting her body at the last second, she managed to avoid hitting a rather large tree, instead hitting one of its branches.

Knocked out of her jump, she fell Lansing hard on her side, rolling through the grass before coming to a hard stop against another tree trunk. Grunting, Abyss turned into her back and stated up at the sky, too tired to move, her body aching. So she just waited with a wide grin on her face for Ezra to catch her.

Ezra's brow scrunched up in concern as he watched Abyss bite the dust, rolling and tumbling until she abruptly stopped against the trunk of a willow tree. He would have checked on her faster, but his lack of experience with flying was beginning to show as he made his descent. Wobbly and off balance, he bore a striking resemblance to a helicopter trying to land in high winds. Many times he lost his grip on the exercise, plummeting quickly or jerking to one side or the other. When he was close enough, he simply cut the power off and dropped, landing just a few feet away from Abyss.

He stared down at her for a moment, then reached down and pressed the tip of his index finger to her forehead. "Tag," he stated flatly. Ezra was certainly impressed by her display of agility and speed, but unlike the first 'game', he knew he would have to be tough in some areas to keep her from becoming lazy or overconfident, as was the plight of so many others he'd taught in his time.

"Not bad... if you were being chased by a bear. Your form was decent enough. Work on your control by focusing on where you want to go rather than just reacting to my directions. Learn to recognize a trap before it even begins and anticipate what your opponent is going to do next."

Ezra straightened out, looking over his nose at her. "Are you broken?"

Abyss stared up at Ezra, a frown on her face. What did he mean by that? Was he a bear, then? She wasn't even using any of her abilities, all she did was jump around. She didn't pick that game so he could test her and then berate her afterwords. She picked that game so that they could play and have fun, and he could see into her world.

Pushing herself up to her feet, Abyss tilted her head to the side, letting her now tangled hair fall across her cheeks. Slowly her "pocket" gave way to the real world, no signs of their "play" evident. The purple and black hues dimming the forest around them faded completely, the frown still on her lips. "If you weren't so fragile, human, maybe I would have given it my all." A small piece of the dark, blood lustful side of her slipped through, her words harsh and cold. She did not like to be talked to in that way, especially when she had been having fun.

Abyss walked around him, heading back towards the manor. Though she did not give any sort of indication, her body ached, feeling pain burn through her as she moved. Dark, blotchy bruises had already begun to appear on her pale skin, cuts and scrapes up and down the left side of her body from where she fell. The Phoenix assassin no longer wanted to play with the stuffy Meta, as he had just rubbed her the wrong way. She was not a newbie. She was not sloppy. She was fast, and she was murderous; Abyss was very good at her job, and she'd be damned if she let anyone tell her she wasn't good enough.

Ezra stood still, watching the girl walk away as the world bled back to reality, any and all evidence that they had done anything washing away with the pocket space. He said nothing to Abyss, her distinct shift in attitude causing him a little confusion, though most of it was frustration. When she finally disappeared from sight, he turned and walked the opposite direction, his hands shoved deeply into his pockets.

"It's not my job to like or be liked. I am not here to be kind. I am here to provide instruction and to help her improve, nothing more." Ezra sometimes talked to himself out loud while he worked things out in his mind. Did it really matter to him that she had left in such a poor mood? Why would it? She was, effectively, his student. They did not ask him to stay and play games and have tea parties with her. "My job is to prepare her for the future, to be able to cope when she rediscovers her past."

Still, he couldn't help but feel frustrated, angry, and depressed. Without really noticing, he had burned through his shoes and was leaving behind charred footprints in the grass. His body temperature was incredibly high, especially around his feet and hips where he created the bulk of his lift.

Deciding he needed to cool off, Ezra wandered the property until he found a stream running near the property where the water moved very slowly and had enough space to swim without bottoming out on the rocks. The meta stripped off his clothing and folded them neatly, setting them on a rock to stay dry. He then sent a text to Trip, stating very simply:

"Day 1. She doesn't like me much right now. Just FYI."

Following that, he set his phone down on his clothes and dove into the water, creating a bit of steam as he broke the surface.

"I noticed." Was all Trip text back with.

He heard Abyss enter the manor, the suffocating lying dark energy around her seeping through the open space like poison. She did not speak as she slid through the room and down to the basement. Abyss knew that if she let her anger consume her that no one would survive and she'd be moved again, or locked up for weeks again. So, she decided to put music on blast and train herself, only she created a pocket in the basement for herself so no one would hear, or see her; it was also for their protection.

If she couldn't calm herself down, she wanted to make sure that no one would get hurt. It unnerved her that this was the second time that day that her darkness began to consume her, leading her to believe that she hadn't won earlier, she had only avoided the siutation. She only sidestepped it for it to come back and rear it's ugly head, knocking her back into a mess of rage and blood.

There was no way she could learn to control her rage that easily. Abyss didn't believe that she could control it at all. She was going to be a bitter disappointment to Ezra, and he would leave her. Just like everyone else. And again she would be alone.
